Today I went with my daughters kindergarten class to the Discovery Museum, after that was done I had a little time to kill before going back to CSAS (near Erlanger) to pick her up after school. I decided to take the short drive to Ross' Landing to fish for a little while. I've done this a time or two before over the winter with no luck. But it was still fun just being near the water and casting.

I fished under the pier for a while and then a man on a golf cart stopped by and let me know that I wasn't supposed to fish there. He said there were signs all over. I have seen signs around the fountain but none there. I asked him where I could fish and he pointed a short distance downstream where there were some rocks to stand on instead of the concrete walkway.

I went to the rocks and continued to have basically no luck until I got what felt like a bite and then I thought I was hung up until I finally realized that I had a pretty good fish on, I was able to land it but it did bend the hook back quite a bit on the 1/16th OZ curly tail jig I was using. It was a drum. I don't know the weight or length. I thought about walking back up the hill and getting my scale and tape measure but I figured the fish wouldn't survive.

This drum is the biggest freshwater fish I've caught that wasn't a catfish.

There was a Spanish speaking family passing by on the concrete walkway behind me as I hooked the drum, they stayed and watched me land it and were kind enough to take this picture.

Just to give you an idea of scale, I'm 6'3" tall and weigh 240 pounds.

Enjoy!

P.S. I just noticed I'm still wearing my 'School Visitor" name label.
