I saw that the rain had just left the radar screen for Harrison and I called up DK to see if he was up for a couple of hours of crappie fishing. He said yes and I picked him up at WT ramp. We started out fishing a slough off the main lake that had been holding some crappie for DK. We had 6 keepers when we left there. We stopped by a "summer" dock and all we could rustle up was a namesake (drum) for DK. We then ran to a point/roadbed, deep dock, and mid depth docks without catching a fish. We then decided to try for some of my pet crappie in the creek and I was glad that we did. I had a good one that got off at the boat on the first cast to a certain spot. We caught a few more there but then they just quit. We moved to a different spot close by and there was no action there. Tried the hot spot in the creek once again without a bite. We ended up with 9 keepers and about the same number of throwbacks that were just shy of 10 inches. We didn't catch any tiny fish today. The biggest fish came from my pets in the creek. The best bait of the day was a crappie stinger in pearl with chartreuse tail. I'm not sure if we caught any on anything else today. I thought we had done pretty poorly but DK got a call from someone that said that they only caught one keeper all day today. We didn't do that poorly in that light. Most fish were caught at a 6-8 count. DK was using 4lb test and I was using 6lb and when he caught the first fish on a 6 count I used a 7 count trying to compensate for the slower drop. It worked.

While running the big motor today I could see that the bait seemed to be on the flats adjacent to the channels and with the way the fish were positioned we assumed that the fish were in transition from the winter areas to the spawning areas. This tends to be the time when I lose contact with the crappie in Harrison bay. I tend to do pretty well though in the creek right now fishing special cover and structure that is associated with the creek channel. DK and I brainstormed a bit about where to find the crappie that we know spawn on some flats in the Harrison bay area but really didn't figure it out today. We had a couple of ideas that we didn't try but hopefully in the next couple of days I'll be able to check out.

We caught 3 or 4 in the 12 inch class but many were in the 10-11 inch class but were really healthy looking fish. The forage base must be doing very well for them.
