Fly Line
#1
Does anyone have any personal experience with Scientific Anglers "Sharkskin" fly-line? If not, what line do you enjoy casting?

I have always stuck to Orvis Wonderline, but my spool is in need of a new line and I am looking for options for my 9' 6wt Sage SLT 690. I am into fishing some of the smaller rivers, but really enjoy the Green, San Juan, etc.

I have heard good things about some of the Scientific Anglers lines from my fishing buddies, but want to hear some other opinions before I buy.

The Sharkskin lines have been hot/cold on the Internet reviews. There are rumors of advanced guide wear, sinking tips on floating lines, and a weird sound while casting. Then there are some that just love it and think it is the best thing since sliced bread. I am all for an expensive line if it is a "miracle" line, but not for over-rated hype.

Hi there Monsterbrowns. I have had Sharkskin for almost a year now. It is the most wonderful line out on the market in my opinion.
I have Selective Trout, Windcutter II, Rigeline, Gold, Sylk, Accelerator, plus Orvis Long Belly, Hi-Flote and Superfine. While all are killer lines, I would chuck them all right now! I bought the SS GPX 5weight. I bought the GPX over the Trout as it can do more. The Trout is limiting, where GPX (General Purpose) does it all.
The line will out last all others by YEARS! It does make a noise through the guides but I really like it now. I fish it for hours and at least twice a week. No bloody fingers, no Raw fingers, my guides are just fine, in fact there has been studies done that the better rods, better guides show no signs.

It casts with ease and DOES add distance to even a beginner. NO line memory. Great in the cold and the hot weather.
You won't be sorry!!! I just got to save up and get me a 4 and a 6 weight.

No HYPE it is the real thing...you can tell from my list of lines, I like the best.
SINKING TIP? no not here, not even close, the line is designed to flote hi and it does just that even in tail waters.

I appreciate the honest info. I want to try it out, but I hate being a sucker to hype. I am glad to hear that it is all that it is chalked up to be.

I will have to give it a try. Do you have a favorite vendor?

Howdy,
I agree with The FlyGoddess 100%. The sharkskin is wonderful. I've had it for a couple months now and it added feet to my roll casts and quite a few feet to my regular casts. The line just seems to fall out of the guides. I fish a Sage Launch and it is great. I have used many different types of line and none compare to Sharkskin in my opinion. Like " J " said, no memory, casts well into the wind. easy on the fingers. Hope this helps.

I got mine at Western Rivers. Those guys really know their stuff. Fish Tech would also be a great choice!!!

I don't know what your schedule is, but I will probably meet up with Pa on Willow Pond tomorrow (Friday 6th) to test some new fly patterns. You are welcome to try mine out. BUT, It is attached to a bamboo rod[Wink]
