[cool]Hey guys, can a rejected dude from Arizona drop in once in awhile for some company? I think all the smart people in Arizona got out of town when the the triple digit temperatures set in. Looks like it's about the same on the Nevada board.

[cool]Heck, since our two states share Lake Mead...and a pretty fair stretch of the Colorado River...we might as well buddy up on the boards.

I think I mentioned to SM in a PM that I lived in both Las Vegas and Boulder City for awhile in my youth. When my family moved from Idaho to California, we stopped in southern Nevada during the early boom days. My dad was an electrician and worked on several of the old big-name hotels as they were being built.

As a kid from Idaho, I was in culture shock...both from the desert and from the new species of fishies in Lake Mead. I bummed rides with some of my new friends and was introduced to catfish, largemouths, crappie, bluegill and carp...all on Lake Mead. Have been back a lot of times since and I have always preferred the action on those waters to the action on the streets of town (Wink Wink).

I think you guys have much the same problem getting the boards going in Nevada as I have in Arizona. While there are a lot of fishermen in the state, they are just not prone to spend time on the internet...in chat rooms or message boards with others. Have you searched out any other boards in the state?

Utah is a different critter. I was around when BFT got their big push in Utah. It was perfect timing. There were several other boards frequented by a large group of enthusiastic fishermen. A lot of them had been recruited by Doug Miller, a local TV personality, who also had a website. Almost every angler with a computer learned how to log on to Doug's message board. There were a couple of other boards with a following too.

The several boards in Utah all began experiencing "problems" about the same time, and Predator was appointed as moderator of the Utah BFT board. He got busy and sent out personal invitations to all the members of the other boards that he could scare up email addresses for, and a few of them jumped in to give it a try. Because of the more structured format, and the lack of stupidity and flaming...through monitoring and editing...the good guys found that this was a forum in shich they could hang out and be comfortable. But, that is something that has to be earned over time. It does not happen overnight.

It didn't hurt, in Utah, that there was a group of Willard Bay wiper fanatics who all came aboard in the beginning. They kept the chatter going and it drew in others who at least liked to read the comments. The base of fishing interests has grown and the number of new members climbs every week. They have also picked up members from around the state, and not just from the SLC area.

If you want to feel better, check out the California board. California is a big state and has a LOT of fishermen...and fishing opportunities. I know. I lived and fished all over California. But, you look at the boards and there are only a handful of folks who ever post anything. Most of them are from the Los Angeles/Long Beach/Orange County area. And, like most of the other boards, it is more of a local chat room than a statewide fishing forum. And, unlike Utah, there are days when there are no posts...or only a post or two by the moderators.

So, you guys are not doing too badly. It takes some effort, but if it is meant to be, it will come to pass. In the meantime, let's have some fun. Let's talk fishin' and go fishin'. At least it keeps us off the streets...where we can get into all kinds of trouble.

And...I think it's a good idea for mods to trade info and posts...especially when we pick up on articles or info that would be of interest in the other states.
