LAKE MEAD

Fishing continues to be slow for striped bass in the Boulder Basin but good in the Overton Arm, according to the Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW).
Boaters have reported to NDOW that stripers are scattered and difficult to catch in the Boulder Basin. One boater said that he found fish at depths of 40 to 80 feet from Boxcar Cove to Callville Bay, but he couldn’t entice the fish to bite.
Another boater told NDOW creel census clerks that he caught six largemouth bass over the weekend by fishing with jerk baits at the Hemenway Wall.

Jim Heinrich, NDOW biologist, said that the shad are spawning and there is forage available near the lake’s surface for game fish. He hasn’t yet seen stripers slurping for larval shad on the surface.

Striped bass that range from 18 to 20 inches have been caught recently in the Muddy River and around Fish Island and Stewart’s Point in the Overton Arm. However, many of the fish have been thin.

Chunky channel catfish are being caught in the Muddy River and at Fish Island.
Largemouth bass are being taken with nightcrawlers and plastic worms around St. Thomas.
