Lowdrag and I had a decent day fishing the BITE on Wtts Bar Saturday. The day got off to a crummy start, we ran to the first stop, only to have some yahoo run in on us and start fishing within ten feet of our boat, announcing as he came forward they just don't seem to be biting today. We finally cranked up a single 15 inch keeper largemouth, the bass were pushing the crankbait. finally started moving on went to the second spot and started throwing a jig and a CR lizard in green pumpkin, had four pick ups but could not get a hook in them. Moved on to a main channel point, no takers not even a bump. At the fourth stop, I was getting frustrated, threw out my CR lizard in watermelon candy, felt something a little strange, set the hook, and it pulled back. We landed a 5.86 largemouth then we had two, started moving around the point and caught our third keeper a squeaker at 15 inches It was turning into a beautiful morning when the home owners decided to go for a boat ride. They dropped down off their dock and preceded to motor between us and the bank through 2 ft of water. The fish didn't like it, we moved again. around noon we pulled into a main channel pea-gravel pocket, caught a 15.25 inch keeper just inside the point, moved on a round the pocket and caught a 2 pounder, again on the rig. As we continued around the pocket I noticed a shallow bar, we moved off of it and started working our way out to deeper water while fishing the bar. We caught 17 fish off of this area ,I lost one good fish off of a stump but no other keepers. It was starting to get up in the day so we moved up river toward Rockwood fishing main lake points as we went. Stopped on the point with the pontoon boat and boated another keeper around two pounds culling our smallest fish. Wind started blowing and we had trouble holding the boat. We went back to our first stop of the morning and caught two fish a three pound keeper largemouth and a 17.5 smallmouth. We were out of time and headed back to the launch area. Our total for the day was 7 keepers with the best five going 14.64 lbs. The tournament paid two big fish with a 6 plus being big fish and a 5.88 being second(ouch) The winning weight was 20.22 lbs. and second was 20.11 lbs.
All of our keeper fish, but one, were caught on a watermelon candy Zoom lizard, 8-12 ft of water. Slow presentation, light, light, light bite. Water temps from 64 -68.2
