i just read in the paper yesterday that the salmon season is being revised right now as we speak because only half of the estimated fish are returning. im a little upset about it given the fact i took 4 days off of work the first week of june to go hit the little salmon river run not gonna be worth it if i can only get one fish.[mad]

I think this is a bit premature. It looks like there probly arnt going to be the numbers they predicted but the fish are bairly hitting lower granite. and alot of fish have gone over bonneville this month. Even if they do lower it to 1 fish they very well may raise the jack limit seeing how many have come over so far.

None on the river, but I did go up to the Reservoir that evening and land 2 SMB which one was 14" and also landed a 16" Walleye.

Chrome junky,
I agree totally. It was a surprise for the F & G to make their prediction of the run -- and set the seasons -- before the first fish came over the first dam. They did it last year and again this year based on who knows what. In years past, they waited until they had real data. That was much better so that we could plan, including taking work vacations, and we knew what we were getting -- up front.
The other things that rub me the wrong way are the emergency closures based on how many wild fish are landed. It is not that critical --IMHO -- to close it within a day of making the cutoff point. Lastly, I don't think they should allow treble hooks on the Little Salmon or S.F. of Salmon. People using them are snaggers. They know it and we know it.
As to catch and release salmon fishing, I am not for that and lets remember that those are the guys that get the season closed early for the rest of us. Many of them are using treble hooks and yarn. Catch them with roe or tuna fish, kill the hatchery fish and eat them -- that is my motto. They are good to eat and we are not taking a chance of wasting the resource that way.
