"Christ Mountain" Ponds
#1
FlyCastin and I headed up to a couple of our favorite fishing holes on the back side of "Christ Mountain" this morning. We loaded up the Scanoe and headed out. The weather was great and the water was glass, And the fish were biting (Somewhat [crazy])
We started off trolling some pop-gear and lures and Immediately hooked a healthy 17 inch CuttBow. After an hour more of trolling and just a few hits, we decided to try something else. We then broke out the raps and woolybuggers. I had about 4 slams on the rap and they all got off [mad], but fly castin managed to land the biggest fish of the day on a bugger (A tiger going 20 inches).
We kept throwing raps and buggers and i finally hooked into a good sized 18 inch Tiger.
After that died down we went back to trolling and hooked up with another 18 inch Tiger and a fat 14 inch cutt.
We called it a day on that pond and headed over accross the highway to the other spot. There we managed to get 3 cutts all under 14 inches, and all caught by Flycastin [:p]
Couldn't ask for a better day on "Christ Mountain" [Wink]

Good lookin' mess of fish! I'm kinda surprised it isn't full just yet. Probably in a week or 2 when that high elevation snow finishes melting.

Birch Creek is clear as can be and you can see the bottom in about 20 feet of water. Woodruff on the other hand, has more water than I have ever seen in my life. There is no parking area, the road goes right into the lake and the creek below looks like the Weber river.
The water over there is murky and the fishing wasn't as good as I had hoped. There is still tons of water flowing into the lake. There are also 10 foot snow banks on the top of SR-39 (Monte). [shocked]

I am a lot dumber than I thought. The one pic with the truck and canoe looked like Birch Creek Res. and the initials in the pic "BC from above" confirmed my suspition, but it took me a couple of hours to realize that Monte Cristo must mean Christ Mountain. In all of the years that I have fished Causey, Birch Creek, and Woodruff, I never figured it out until now. That is pretty funny. I hope you don't mind, but I think I may start to call the area Christ Mountain also.

That spot where you took the picture with your truck is where I went down to the water and launched my 12 footer the last time I was there. One thing is for sure, you don't have to worry about seeing too many boats on that lake[Wink]. Thanks for posting your report.

Sorry to say but B.C. wont fill this year, they have already opened it up for irrigation water. Last year it got quite low and had an algae bloom, sure hope it don't happen again, it seemed to hit the fish pretty hard. Glad to see you getting a few fish, the last couple of weeks have been slim on the catching, the water levels in both ponds have fluctuated quite alot.

There was another guy launching a 12ft boat on a trailer down that road on Saturday. That's pretty risky on that road, but I guess it works. There were also about 6 pontoons and 5 float tubes on there. There were also a bunch of bank tanglers. It didn't seem like anybody was really getting into them. It was pretty slow, but I'm glad we managed to get a few.
The most rewarding thing was that we caught most of the fish on home made stuff. [cool]

I love that little lake!!

We just took my boat up in the back of the truck and that worked out OK, a lot easier than a trailer As we trolled in the back by the inlet stream a guy came driving up on that private road and launched just to the east of it the inlet. I was surprised but I guess if you can get on that private road it would sure be a lot easier[Wink].

The new scanoe has already produced quite a few nice fish in just 2 trips.

Had a great time... those tigers put up a nice fight... especially on some of the light tackle we caught a few on. [cool]

I have owned one since 1982 and they are fun to fish and hunt out of.[Wink] Very versital boats and tough lil boats,My 82 has been threw allot and after plastic welding the center keel this last season back near the transom and up on the bow it should last another twenty years.I run a 5hp mariner on it for fishing and a 6hp mud buddy when hunting, what are you running on yours HJ.
