outboard trouble shoot
#1
I have a 1985 40hp Evanrude. And It runs super. Other than after sitting 20 min or so the fuel creeps back away from the carb. And threw the fuel pump and stops near the fuel filter. Cranking the motor over doesn't reprime up to the carb. A tiny shot of starting fluid fires it up every time and with a little help from the bulb primer. Im back in business. If I stop for short times I am fine just 20 min or longer and I need the starting fluid to go.

Not sure why you need to use the starting fluid. Won't it start again by just priming it again with the bulb? I have solved the problem of losing pressure in the line by replacing the bulb primer.

Replace bulb primer (its back flow flap is leaking allowing gas to run back into the tank). You may also want to replace the gas line too while you're at it. They usually go bad in tandem.
