Henry's Lake Report and first catch!!
#1
I hit Henry's Lake from 4:00 p.m. until about 8:30 p.m. today. This was probably my 4th trip up there and had yet to catch a fish!!! I first hit the county boat dock and was AMAZED at the number and size of fish just cruising everywhere! I literally seen hundreds of fish swimming around!

Fish and Game did close fishing on the boat docks now, so that kind of sucks. It especially sucks when there are a bunch of people fishing there and nowhere to fish. It doesn't give you many places to fish.

I was using black leeches and the "wild rose special" and not getting any hits. I decided to move to the hatchery and try my luck there. (That is where the people at wild rose told me to go.) I fished there for a while and had no hits.

After that I headed back to county boat dock. There were even more fish cruising around then! They were EVERYWHERE! Big ones and small ones. I finally had 2 or 3 hits on my leeches but I couldn't land any of them. One of them was pretty big.

I switched over to my spin reel and threw on a panther martin. I had a few hits and got 2 fish on but still couldn't land a fish! I finally got nailed and landed a beautiful 20" male cutthroat!! (Picture is attached!)

Overall, fishing was slow and I really didn't see many fish caught until about the last 30-45 minutes and then I seen a couple of big ones caught and a couple of small ones.

It is really nice scenery up there! Check out my picture!

Congrats on your first Henry's fish. I need to get up there, but hate the crowds. I will be up there around the 13th. I am glad they finally closed the docks for fishing. Not only was it dangerous with all those flies flying around, it was bad fishing etiquette also. I have had my boat up there and tried to come into the dock and people just had no manners. They would keep on fishing even as I came into dock. I just had to run over lines and then people got upset on the dock that I even thought about actually using it for what it was designed for.

Something you might try when fishing Henry's this time of year with so many fish close to shore is throw a few Nymph's or use them as a trailer on your streamer. For the spinning reel try an orange Rapala.

Thats true. I had a tough time and spent 12 hours per day Friday and Saturday catching about 10 fish per day. The lake is warm, 60 degrees, the weeds are up and the bug hatch looks like a carpet on the water. It was better Sunday morning after a few thunder showers, though.

Still a beautiful place..
