The Richmond Hill, Georgia, team of Kelley Clements, Tracy Shaw, Ellis Phillips, Michael Mosley, and Rusty Rogers, captured a 58.58 pound kingfish on day two of the South Florida event held at the Four Fish Marina inJensen Beach. Their second day smoker, coupled with the 38.87 scaled by the Mercury powered Fountain team on day one, gave the "On the Brink" a 97.45 two fish aggregate to capture the $40,000 cash prize as well as a boat load of Raymarine electronics. They also picked up an additional $10,000 cash prize in the local Francis Langford Memorial event.
Mark Maus from Sarasota, Florida, fishing with teammates Sean Edmunds, Dowling Granberry, and Jeff Worn, has been on the Tour for many years and has always done well. This year is no exception. Thanks to a great 53.41 pound king caught on the second day coupled with a 34.79 on day one, their 88.20 two fish aggregate gave "Team Simrad" second place in the tournament and moved the Mercury powered Yellowfin team into the top ten overall for the season.
Jacksonville Florida's Conrad Lau, Dell Williamson, and Rocky Cusack, fishing on the Koolau, caught two nice kings, a 38.18 and a 45.32 for a third place tournament finish and an 83.50 pound aggregate. Their fish coupled with the two fish they caught in Key West moved them into the overall Yamaha Pro Tour lead. This seasoned team, fishing on a Mercury powered Fountain, needs a good pair of fish at next months event to keep them in contention for the 2009 "Angler of the Year" title.
Brant, Barrett, and Rube McMullen from Ocean Isle Beach, NC, fishing on their Ocean Isles Fishing Center's Yamaha powered Yellowfin captured a fourth place finish in the Jensen Beach event with a 40.45 and a 40.76 for an 81.21 aggregate. The Team Donzi entry, skippered by Dan Upton with two time past SKA National Champion Jack Wood, Ken Upton and David Heavenridge on board, picked up the fifth place prize in the JensenBeach event with a nice 78.95 aggregate, scaling a 42.82 on day one and a 36.13 on day two.
After two events the Koolau is in the overall top position with 157.09 points just 12 hundredths of a point ahead of On the Brink with 156.97 points. In third place is Ron Mitchell's Bandit with a four fish total of 154.12. The Conched Out has 151.49 points for fourth place and finishing out the top five is Team Donzi less than seven points off the lead with 150.84 points.
