Got on the water at 0700, thought I'd try and follow the advice of a post on bft for the SW area trolling cranks as my nephew was in town. Threw about 50 varients of cranks at the wipers/walley's with not a hit. Didn't see one boat land anything either. Crankem called and told me he was having a slow bite on bottom bouncers. It was not hard to put me back into bouncers. headed over there right as the bite seemed to end. Fished all day today. Came home with one eye at 19" and a catfish that was about the same length. Got off the water as the winds picked up. Was hoping for a couple for dinner but overall had a great day on the lake. Water skiers are out unfortunately. Not too bad today however. Water temp was 67 when I put in and 75 when I pulled out.

I took my son out there Sunday morning and we did fair. We fished from 7:15 until 11:45. Boated 5 wipers 1 walleye and had 3 more fish come undone on the way in. We trolled around the south, and west dikes and made a lap around the island before leaving. Lost 1 real nice Walleye, but most of the others were smaller fish and they were not caught on the usual lures.

Storm Fronts and pressure will shut down the bite[frown], watch the weather closer, and schedule a day were the pressure is the same and on the 2nd to 3rd day you will knock theme dead. Caught 7 wiper 2 crappie and a walleye on he 28th of May before the front moved in. it was the 3rd day that the pressure was steady, I know some think I am crazy to believe this, but history repeats it's self and I learn from the old dogs.[Image: happy.gif]

Two Friday's ago I caught 6 wipers, 4 walleye's and a crappie right before the storm blew me off the lake. Wasn't a fast bite but did that in half a day, that's why I went out before the storm yesterday. My grandfather used to do this in WI, my dad (who was with me both trips) swears bye fishing just before a storm. Sure didn't work yesterday. I have no idea what is true or not. I was ready to fish with dynamite yesterday to see if the fish I was markign were really fish? Two Friday's ago I was Bouncing the whole time on the East side, would have caught more eyes as I had found the school but was too nervous with the clouds coming so I took off. Yesterday we caught both fish on the North side.

We managed to get 2 Wally's and 2 wipers Yesterday.
We also caught a Rainbow Trout, could not believe our eyes. We let the Rainbow go, Crankbait was a 1/3 his size,
i guess he thought he was a wiper.[sly]

Willard is different in the fact that it is a low water lake, even at 20-30 feet it is considered low water compared to other lakes, I am telling the pressure makes the different. Most of the time.

I don't know what the pressure does or doesn't do. I was merely bringing up my experience with the same conditions two weeks ago when I did okay on the same lake.

Wow you are good!!!! Wasn't it you who noticed the "secret" gill pattern at mantua a couple days ago? It took me years to figure out a pattern for wipers and yes it is very close to what you are describing except I find it only on the 2nd day. After that dead.....before that dead. Well, relatively speaking, but if they don't bite every five minutes or less preferably, whatever the species, it's dead to me and not worthwhile. lol.

A rainbow? Boy is that interesting! How many other people here have stumbled onto trout at willard? Also...how big was it?

Submoa the mighty [#0000ff]master[/#0000ff] hook [#0000ff]baiter[/#0000ff].How the hell are you?Sounds like better some days than others. The good thing about that is your good days are more often than most fisherman...I heard a thing or two about the high pressure thing the coach was talking about, but I heard it was only on a full moon and it had to land on a sunday....

You should give up fishing for women the big ones are easy to catch...........................................................[fishin]

I have caught a couple (Browns) years ago(late 70's) in the early spring (March) during walleye spawn throwing rapalas along the West dike in the early morning hrs. Haven't caught any since then though. That was before I knew better and actually took them home to eat. [:/]

I picked up a small 8" bow out of willard last year. I think they come down from the streams that lead to the inlets.
