[#bf0000]I took a trip to strawberry the other day and was skunked. We fished from 15 feet down to 50. I tried jigging, trolling with red devils, powerbait, worms, eggs basically everything i could think of. Anyone been having any luck lately?[/#bf0000]

The next 30 days will be the toughest fishing for the year at the berry. July will be better.

So basically the best thing to do would be avoid the berry for a while?

We had alot of trouble locating any fish they were not in open water or in our usual holes. Finally found the fish were scooled and stacked in50' halfway in the water colum for the most part.we caught some small cuts under the slot and then obe je i hooked a lunker and got a quick release boat side as he swam along with us.we got lures down under the debris using lead core.Trolled countdowns and pearch wally caught the lunker on a holo fasher. down 20'.

I would not avoid the berry but expect the fish to be interested in other things..... You will be able to catch a few but will have to work a little harder at it.

I can't help with BAITS. I just fly fish, but I did find that small CHIRONOMIDS (basically a #14 hook with black thread, white rib and a black head) right off the bottom OR California Leech worked well both times I have been up there. About 30' of water.

How do you get a chironomid "right off the bottom" at 30 feet? That's impressive!

The last couple times we were there they were hitting off silver repalas. During the summer when it starts getting good, we have good luck with a greenish color tube jig and worm.

Floating line, then 30' of (my choice) Seaguar 6 lb fluorocarbon, then slip indicator (see my blog for how these work) then fly. I also do a tag 3' up from bottom and attach another fly.
I use sonar, but I have used a clip on weight, dropped the line down, marked where it stops, then raise one foot and set the indicator.
Can't cast it, just drop and kick back. When it is on...it is a blast!
