DNR schedules summer fisheries surveys on Duluth area lakes
#1
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will conduct lake surveys and population assessments during the 2009 field season in the Duluth Fisheries Area which includes parts of St. Louis and Lake Counties. In addition, 42 streams and rivers will be continuously monitored for temperature throughout the summer. Fisheries surveys and assessments monitor changes in fish populations and determine whether management strategies have been effective. Survey frequency varies on each lake depending on angler use, lake size, and frequency of stocking. DNR staff use the data in developing individual fisheries lake management plans. The plans identify goals for key species in the lake and outline specific management activities.

Dates for surveys and assessments for the summer are tentative, and waters could still be added or dropped from the list.
