New to tubing, ODC420 on way
#1
Hi everyone this is my first post , I chose to do my intro here rather than in the intro section as I am only here because of everyone in the tubing area. Especially TubeDude who has really provided a wealth of info after looking through the archives for hours. Thanks TudeDude

I also just wanted to thank everyone for all the info and I didn't want to just take it and run as it seems this is a pretty nice community of tubers and probably the only really good one I have found on the net.

So I grabbed an ODC 420 and it is on its way now. I went with tubedude's suggestion and got a pair of Mares Plana Avanti X3 in black, after trying them on in a local dive shop here in Columbus Ohio.

Have a buddy who is probably going to get an ODC420 also so will be nice to have a local tubing buddy as it looks like everyone here is pretty far from Ohio.
I am getting my ODC420 from an online retailer who is currently having a sale on the 2009 model ,179.99, and I know i can't post a link yet as this is my first post but google "portable kayaks" first result

Anyhow thanks again for all the great info need to buy a double action pump i believe the local one I saw was big and yellow for like 11.99 at sports authority....that one any good?

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard. Lots of new faces on the forum. I guess everybody comes out of hibernation when it warms up.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Sounds like you are well on your way to getting set up and on the water. Glad we have been able to provide some help and guidance.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If that pump you are looking at is a "Texsport", snap it up. TubeBabe got one of those about mid year last year and really likes it. I like it too when she is out of town and I "accomodate" it. Really moves the air and the connections on the hose are twist lock in place. Good price.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I could not find the outlet by your Google instructions. If anybody else wants the link you can post it with my permission, or else send them the info by Private Message.[/#0000ff]

Tried out my new ODC 420 twice last weekend, and it's great! So much faster than my U-boat. More elbow room to cast, too. Needs a rod holder, though, so I can take my three trusty poles. Actually I'd like to add a fourth. So many times fishing -- no, catching -- is being in the right place at the right time with the right lure. I was working riprap in the ODC when I saw feeding activity out in the lake. I quickly kicked out to get in on the action while reaching for the right rod. Yeah, I'm going to really like this craft.

Happened to notice several visits to my web site, http://www.PortableKayaks.com about the 420. It is a great tube. I've had excellent comments on it. Thanks for yours as well. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

In response, I've eliminated the shipping charges on the 420. It's now $179.99 total, with free shipping. Just click here to see the ODC 420 .

Very Nice!!!! One question, are you right or left handed?
All those poles on the right leads me to think you are lefty or that maybe with spinning gear it doesn't matter.
At any rate....very well done.....NOW GET OUTTA HERE and fish[Wink]

Now that you mention it, I am lefthanded (so I'm in my right mind, I'm told). I cast standard baitcsters with my left hand and reel with my right. Works for me. I've found it best to keep the left side of my float clear in order to sidearm, what with being so low to the water. So the rod holder must go on the right.

Lake Shenandoah, outside Harrisonburg, is the least breathtaking of the three beautiful bodies of water I fish within 30 minutes of our cottage at the foot of the Blueridge. It's surrorunded by trees and hills but not towering mountains like the other two -- Beaver Creek Lake and Sherando Lake. Shenandoah isn't as cold, tends to be murky and has lots of weeds, which I like, as well as laydowns, rock walls and riprap -- lots of possabilities. All three have wary largemouths. No smallies, though. Shenandoah, I'm told, has Muskies so I'm going to study up. I fish for bass because, located where I am, it's the only fish with a chance to make my reel sing. I miss those long fights with bull Redfish, struggling to reel them close only to cope with third, fourth, even fifth runs down to the knot.

[cool][#0000ff]I cut reel handle grooves in the ends of all my rod tubes. Helps keep the rods from rotating around and the reels from "interacting" with each other. You can experiment with the width and depth of the grooves to accomodate your rod/reel combos.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Just a note. The pistol grip handles will fit more loosely in the larger diameter PVC. And, the handles are typically shorter than spinning handles. You may want to make the grooves deeper to secure the rods down further in the tubes. Might also be a good idea to have a safety bungee cord to pull up over them when not in use. Good baitcasters cost money and it causes real pain to see one sinking to the bottom.[/#0000ff]

Brad,
I live in Ohio, and have an ODC420. When I got mine a few years back the ODNR told me I did not need to register it. Has this changed? I am not to worried about being some of the pits I normally fish. However, I started fishing Knox lake this year and don't want any surprises. What did you find out?
Best Regards
Rob
