rsimms, Gulf of Mexico, Mixed Bag & Scallops, 7-03-2009, Barbara, Chris & Joe
#1
I'm in Steinhatchee, Fla. right now visiting friends, Chris & Joe Jenkins. Great fun... been fishing and scalloping. Season opened Wednesday. Scallops are THICK. Don't have to hunt for them... just snorkel along and pick up all you want. Hundreds of boats out scalloping. My fingers are raw from shuckin' scallops.

We fished outside of Steinhachee yesterday and today. Caught mainly trout on the flats yesterday. Lots of short fish... only three keepers. A CFF friend gave me some coordinates for a rock reef. We went out there this morning and had a blast catching a mixed bag....multiple species... sea bass, trout, ladyfish, sharks, grunts and a couple of other "unknown" species. We're having sea bass and scallops for dinner. emoHungry

Holiday crowd is huge... madhouse coming back into the river this afternoon. We're giving up the Bay to the Holiday crowd tomorrow and going to canoe the upper Steinhatchee River.

Supposed to be a cool fireworks show tomorrow night in Steinhatchee. Life is good and gettin' better every day!
