Past Week Fishing Report
#1
I am on my way to Oxbow so I though I better report on the past weeks activities before I go.

On July 3rd I had family in town so I took the little cousins over to the Rexburg nature pond for a couple of hours.

The gold fish were on fire. Yes, the elusive Rexburg gold fish are in there by the hundreds right now. They would not hit powerbait, worms, or fish eggs. They went nuts over small bits of bread on a size 10 hook under a bobber. The cousins all had fun and caught several in the trophy 6-8" size range. I think the gold fishs' diet had become very specialized as they are used to the bread from people feeding the ducks. I will post pics when I get back.

On Monday morning I went with friends to Ririe for some early morning bass. I ended up catching 14 with about half of them being over the 12" mark. (All caught and released). The fish have definately moved into the deeper water off of rock shelves (10-25ft). We caught a few on senkos in the early morning before they moved deeper. The highlight of the day was catching two 14"ers in a row on a 3 1/2" 3/8oz crawfish jig. Both of those fish were caught in over 20ft of water in the rocks. 14es doesn't sound like much but that is towards the upper end of the bass at Ririe. There are bigger ones in there but they are far and few between.

On Wednesday night I went back to Ririe with Steelfisher and his driftboat. The weather was very unfavorable. The wind was howling, but we wanted to get out of the house bad. After a long treck down lake we tried to find protected coves and get some fishing done. We did find a few fish Steelfisher caught 6 or so and I caught only three but two of them were pretty big. Steelfisher was trying a spinnerbait for the first time because of the wind. He managed to pick up a couple on that and then got the rest on a senko fished wacky.

I caught mine on gitzit tube jigs.

Well with the water levels dropping you should here some trout reports from me in the near future although I hope to smack the bass at oxbow in the next few days.

Good Luck to all

Next time your up to Ririe you ought to try for some Kokanee, My Dad and I have been catching some real nice kokes up there. I can't believe how much bigger they've gotten since ice fishing. And the next generation that we will be catching this winter are already pretty good size. We could have some big healthy Kokes up there for the next few years. I am already excited for winter. Think snow.

Windriver the trout reports will increase. We floated from Conant to Cottonwood this morning and the fishing was pretty good. We had to be home by noon so it was a quick float down the river. No stopping to wade or anchor in the good spots. The fish were responding to golden stones on the surface. We talked to some other guys that said they caught fish on golden stones, salmon flies, and yellow sallies. We just stayed with what was working for us. Attached is a picture of Ty he had an awesome trip for his first time floating.

Hey Windriver, thanks for the tip on the goldfish! I wanted to catch one for one thing, and I ended up taking my 2 year old and she caught her first fish ever! It wasn't big but it sure was orange[laugh]!
