Surf fishing at halfmoon bay CA
#1
So I have fished the bay my whole life and want to try somthing new. I have read alot of post and still have a couple questions. If im surfing for perch fish how far out should I go and how far should I cast? Also I've been hearing shrimp, sand crabs, or squid what would be my best chance and easiest to use?

I have not surf fished any farther north Morro Bay and didn't think I would be much help to you until I started searchin' around on the topic.

These are nice fish pulled out of your waters! They are basically fished the same way we fish Barred Surf Perch(bsp) down here in SoCal.
Your freshwater tackle will do, ie, 6 to 9ft rods with reels filled with 4 to 8lb test with 1/4 to 1oz.egg sinkers. All you need is to get a bait 30 to 60ft out so you be the judge. The most popular way to rig is the Carolina rig. As far as bait, try 2" grubs (especially motoroil and red flake) you may have, or see if you can get Berkley Gulp Sandworm (the camo is HOT down here) in the 2". The following site may be more help:

Good luck and post some results
