E-lake report.
#1
went up to E-lake yesterday to meet up with coldfooter and to take some friends that asked me to teach them how to down rig and jig there.. we got there a little late around 10:30 i think it was.. we got the riggers set up and started trolling.. we hit fish here and there but nothing with any size and most were tigers.. so after about 2 hours and 10 or so fish we went to the jigging hole.. got set up and started putting the hurt to them bad boy's.. coldfooter came out with the grandkids and set up in same area.. fishing was spoty at times but lot's of hit's and some good hook up as well. coldfooter took the kidd's back to camp and brought the wife out to get in on the action.. i got 2 more guy's hooked on jigging i think! lol took home a full limit of cutt's. all tigers were put back along with 1 rainbow..

there is some desturbing things going on up there.. seems there are pepole hurassing fishermen that are trying to harvist minnows! i heard two more storys about pepole being hurassed for minnow harvesting? and my buddy put there trap in the river befor we left and came back to find someone had pulled it dumped it out and throw half of it down the river.. the DWR needs to look into this and stop it befor someone get's hurt up there.. becouse after the run in i had last week at huntington and the hurssment that is going on with others i'm going to beat anyone that comes near my traps or has anything to say to me about harvisting minnows! inless they are a Co or someone that has athority to do so! i have every right to harvist minnows from any lake up there!!

one other thing i have noticed up there.. the DWR keeps saying there are zebra mussels in the lake? everything i have read about them say they grow and spred fast! it does not take long for them to take hold on hard surfases.. so where are they? i see no sign's of them anywhere? not on any rock, the boat ramp, log's in the water or boats that have been left in the water.. the DNR guy is not even up there washing boats off any more? so what gives?

Ron, vertically jigging is the only way to go (perhaps fly fishing is great fun also, but I have just barely tried that).[Smile] I need to get the impeller repaired on my trolling motor and I haven't gotten around to it for a few weeks now, and a few years ago (before I got turned onto vertically jigging) I would have been in a panic that it wasn't repaired. Your experience with people getting excited about folks harvesting the minnows reminds me of several years ago at Soldier Creek. I was catching minnows with my casting net around the docks there when the guy who managed the store there came down and asked why I didn't let those small fish grow larger. I told him that I was catching them for bait, that they were not game fish and in fact I was helping the fishery by removing of the competing non-game-fish minnows out of there. He got all excited and said that a UDWR officer was close by and that he was going to send him right over. I told him that would be fine if he wanted to do that. The officer came over and looked at my minnows (to make sure that I wasn't netting any cutts or rainbows) and wished me luck fishing with them.[cool]

ya know Kent i went the other way on that one.. i started out fly fishing and went to jigging.. it is fun to catch fish on a fly rod but i dont miss it very much.. i can catch more and bigger fish with a jig then a fly rod.. even in the rivers.. [sly].. lead and meat all the way man!! no fluff and feather for me! lol

Hey Ron it was good harassing you once againg my freind.
BTW, I spoke with DWR about the E lake mussel situation two weeks ago. Seem to this point all they have found in E is, and I quote, "just the DNA of the mussels". So after he rinsed my ride off I asked him, "what about all the casting bubbles being fill in E and drug around the bank through the mud and then hauled around the country? Whats to pervent that from speading the mussels??".. His reply, "good point"..

Seems due to the laxness of the general public this mussel issue, like that of the June sucker, could be a lost cause. But I'd like to see them mussels contained and cooked in black bean sauce with red hot peppers.. [laugh]
