In need of help near Rexburg!!!

Hey guys, I just moved up here from Utah (I know...sorry), and I am obsessed with the fact that I can go fishing after work because of all of the close-by locations. But the issue is, that everywhere I have gone so far I have gotten skunked. I have never Fly Fished before, and I am planning on learning but until then I'm stuck doing it the conventional way. Where are the best places to run to near rexburg, and what is the best bait to use around here. I am spoiled because I am used to catching huge bows/cuts out of Strawberry. Thanks for any help!!

Well, I live in Rexburg, and the Goldfish are bighting like crazy at the nature pond! All you need is some mashed up bread.
ok just kidding, If I were you I would try the south fork. I haven't been able to get out lately but I've heard some really good reports of big fish lately.
As for being spoiled, once you get things figured out, you won't be any less spoiled here either. you chose a great place to move to. Good luck!

Utah's nothing to be ashamed about. I moved from there about 2 1/2 years ago to go to school here in Rexburg. I definitely recommend learning how to fly fish if your planing on staying here for awhile, it's a more efficient way to fish rivers. If your here for school then try and get into the fly fishing class that they offer on campus, it's very inexpensive and will give you a great start. The fishing right now has slowed down a bit because of all the hot weather but it will pick up again as soon as it starts to cool down. Strawberry is an Awesome lake, but so is Henry's you just have to learn to fish it like anything else.

Like others have mentioned fly fishing is king around here. I am best at stillwater fishing, but I am starting to learn the rivers around here. There are several good sections of the N. Fork that can be fished with spinners or bait around St. Anthony. Just check the regs to make sure where you are. The easiest family fishing water in this area is the area around the cliffs down river from the bridge just after Ashton. It gets stocked heavily and is always good for a limit of stockers when my kids need quick action.

Ririe is good for Kokanee, smallmouth, and cutts if you have a floatube or boat.
