La Paz 2009
#1
Just returned from seven days in Baja California.

Pictures say it all:

Golfo de California where earth, sky, and water merge together. Declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Contains 244 islands and miles of mainland beaches.

Eric on the beach at Las Arenas. Pangas are launched off the beach in predawn darkness. We spent two days of "inshore" fishing off Isla Cerralvo.

Captain Archangel tosses his big net for live bait. This fine man has been fishing these waters all of his life.

Live sardines fill the bow section of the boat.

Rooster fish! Eric and I caught ten of these scrappy fish. These beautiful fish were released.

Pargo! These beautiful fish hit hard and dive deep into the rocks.

Las Arenas also produced several seabass, and this interesting fish.

Time to board the deluxe pangas for three days of fishing out of La Paz. These boats are larger and faster than the Las Arenas fleet. Time to fill the ice chests with dorado!

Eric and Captain Chico hook-up another dorado! What a blast! We used live mackerel and live sardines for bait.

[inline "La Paz 188r.jpg"]

Needlefish! These fish follow the boat and steal the bait. This one is about five feet long.

[inline "La Paz 166r.jpg"]

Dorado! We caught three limits of these wonderful fish in three days of fishing. Most between ten and fifteen pounds. These fish are fighters, they run, jump, and dive.

Captain Chico cleaning dorado. We brought about eighty-five pounds of dorado filets home.

Ceviche! Prepared from our own catch at the Fubar Cantina located on the La Paz waterfront.

Eric and I with our host, Jonathan Roldan, owner of the Fubar Cantina and Tailhunter-international charter service. This guy will bend over backwards to make your trip to La Paz enjoyable. Check out his website at www.tailhunter-international.com I can't wait until next year when we can return to Baja to do it again!

Jonathan is the man! He really worked hard to make our trip successful. His Fubar cantina is awesome. They will cook and serve your catch, Modelo Negra on tap, sporting events on the big screen!

when is the next trip?

Next summer, 2010. My son and I have a great time in La Paz!

Thanks, I'm still fired up about it!

I still have yet had a chance to fish the ocean.

You better not. You will never be the same.

Some crazy looking fish right there!

Baja produces pargo, cabrillo, dogtooth & yellow snapper, sierra, jack crevalle, amberjack, roosterfish, pompano, wahoo, dorado, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, marlin, etc. I have not caught half of them........yet.
