After DAV event at Strawberry, my new friend Daneil Westerfield had mentioned he would like to catch a Wiper. I called him up and he was up for the challenge. I met him yesterday morning at 05:30 at his house, he was waiting outside by the mailbox for me. I asked him how long he had been standing outside and he said he was out there since 05:00, he didn't want me to miss his house even though I told him I would be there at 05:30. We got to Willard and were the 3rd boat there. Left the south marina and headed toward freeway bay. I had two poles trolling and Daniel had one. I gave him my secret lure on his pole and I was using similiar crankbaits as well. To make a long story short, he caught the first 2 wipers and a catfish and I was at zero. I finally caught up to him and then we didnt keep track anymore. Fishing was great and he wanted some fish for a fishfry because one of his friends is getting ready to depart to Afganistan soon... Thanks for the company Daniel (75 yrs old)
We both lost about 5 fish coming to the boat also.
PS: all these wipers had empty bellies, nothing at all in their stomachs. .

He has enough for a good fishfry. He was smiling all day especially when it was 3 fish him and me nothing. He was hoping I wasn't going to get skunked. lol I even filleted all these fish for him. His hands dont work as good as he wants them to so I cut them up and got them ready for the freezer. I forgot to ask if I can come to his fishfry....

I am thinking about taking him to Newton next friday for some Tigermusky, that would be exciting to see. He cant cast out and reel in very well but if we trolled all day like at willard he will do fine. He got a free fishing pole from North American Fishing Club when he joined and it is becoming his lucky fishing pole. I respooled some heavier line on it for willard and if we hit newton I will respool it for him with some braid. Daniel is good company and has lots of stories to tell.

[#008000]I'm glad to see you getting Daniel out and into some fish. He sure is a great guy. Good luck at Newton with him - I hope he gets into a nice TM there. He would have a blast with that.[/#008000]

Great time for sure, at about 2:15 we were leaving freeway bay headed toward the south marina just passing the buoy and Daniel got a wiper on. I got up and grabbed the net and noticed one of my poles getting hit... I grabbed my pole and reeled in kitty real fast. Then I set the kitty in the floor and netted Daniel's wiper 4lbs. I threw his pole out again and looked over at my other pole and it was getting hit. So I have a kitty still in the floor on the first pole still. I get my fish in, a wiper and as I am unhooking it Daniel gets another wiper on. I get mine unhooked and in the livewell and just in time to net his wiper. I unhook his then unhook mine still in the floor and then we circle and catch more kitties. Fast action, 3 wipers and 1 kitty under 2 minutes. Good time for sure...
