Fish Lake Adventure - Sat June 28th, 2003 (report)
#1
X-man, hedgesd, and I decided to hit fish lake saturday, none of us had fished it before, except hedgesd ice fished it once or twice . . . wow what beautiful scenery -

it was nice to see a lake that wasn't down one inch of water too!

we rented a boat at 6am, met HOOSIER there with a buddy, they were goin fishin too! We took off towards the east side of the lake, and i quickly caught my first splake ever . . a 14 incher . .

we hit the 'weedline', which is unbelievable - 10-15 feet from the bank its 60-80 feet deep! Don't bother trying to fish this lake from the shore, its impossible! and if we ever got too close to it, the billions of perch would hit your baittipped lure . . we caught 15-20 perch for bait, fileting them, sweeting the lures with it . . x-man caught splake, rainbows, and 2 smaller lake trout, i caught a few rainbows and splake, no lakers - hedgesd caught rainbows, splake, and 3 lakers - biggest about 19 inches -

we used jigs, tube jigs, spoons, bait, everything - x-man and I got hits tipping our stuff with worms, hedgesd did better with perch meat . . .

HERES SOME VIDEO OF THE LAKE:

a great day on a great lake with great company! but we were all disappointed we didnt run into any lakers with any size to them, and at times we went 3 hrs with no fish, we never did hit steady action - oh well first time on the lake and all . . . the wind never got to be a problem, it was never more than 5 mph all day . . . we had a nice lunch at the lodge on the lake . .

All of the fish seemed real skinny - i guess the perch are eating all of their chow . . we need to thin out those perch!@ Ill let the other guys post their comments - thanks to all the bft guys that gave us tips . . .

I'm jealous, Fish Lake is one of my favorite waters. Many fond family memories with that place. Glad you had a great time, but the most important detail was left out. Did Xman's red fishing line become invisible in the water?

Nice report Southerman. I think you covered everything except the crappy anchor and too short of rope. Either way a slow day for catching but the fishing was great. That was fun hooking those lakers at 80 ft. Man for being smaller they sure did fight great.

i never put it on. didnt want to take the time to spool the line on in the boat. ill do it tonight and hit some wipers with it. i wnat to see if it is as strong as the claims. if i break off then i know my stren is just as good cuz my 6lb stren will break off too.

Hey southern hate to tell you this but right after you left otter the afternoon bite came on like i said it would. i caught about 10 more in three hours. for awhile it was a fish 10 seconds after your bait hit the water. It took some combinations but i finally found what they wanted. i got broke off on my ultralight too. haha snapped my line clear into my real. that was sweet i saw the fish and it was probably around 2 lbs or so. but dang those thigns can run. 4lb test doesnt last too long if the drag is evne slightly locked down on those bows down there.

Fun fishing trip at fish lake. wish the fish catching was a bit better but was a blast in the boat with southern and hedges for the day.

honestly they didnt go crazy i found out what they wnated to hit. i didnt see any other people getting bites. the same people that were catching them werent anymore. also hit redmond on the way home for a shot at my first pike. nothing going on there except a bunch of jet skis and some major heat my heck it was hot yesterday. i did have one strike im pretty sure was a pike. pulled in one of my plastics and it was ripped in have from a bump. i dont see bass do that too often. have to try to get one later i guess when they are more active.

Maybe we should go for a pike at Redmond next get together. One of should be able to find a couple for us all. I've wanted to do a little ice fishing there but I always find a hot spot closer.

Should of took a picture of that lipstick perch.

Hey southernman i glad that you had a good day up there, i was there but i couldnt fish i had a wedding to attend i wished i could have fished that was the best weather day that i had ever been there. I was at the lakeside marina talking to the attendant and as he brought in the rental boats i saw alot of stringers with rainbows that had really distorted colors. did you catch any of these? i hear that they are planter 'bows. i also say a guy with a mac about 5lbs that he caulght on a 1 1/2 inch pearch colored crank.
