Preston, Palisades, and Ririe tips wanted

I have been reading the posts here for a few weeks and am wanting to head over Preston way and fish some of the reservoirs over there. I am thinking of going to Lamont or Johnson and seeing if I can catch one of the Tiger Muskies or some bass. I also have thought of going to Ririe after smallmouths but not sure which part of the lake to target. I would be out in a kayak so no motor. Also any pointers on Pallies would be appreciated. I have been of a mind fishing near Elk or Indian Crks on ther lake might get me into some kokanee before they go up the streams but am clueless and have not had any luck. Also any input on Blackfoot or Chesterfield would be great. I have fished for Trout around Jackson and Star Valley and in the Sawtooths for years and am after some different locales and species. Welcome to the board. Wow when you decide to post you ask a lot of questions all at once. Its probably better to start off one question at a time so people can give you specific information.

I'll start with Ririe. You should be able to catch bass at Ririe from your Kayak. It depends on the time of year, but right now the bass are in water that is between 5-20ft of water. I would look for a rip rap or boulder filled shoreline. I would dropshot a pumpkin or watermellon colored reaper or roboworm with a chartruse tail. You can also wacky rig a baby bass colored senko type bait and do really well. There are not many big ones in there but with some work and patience you can work your way through the small ones and get a decent one every once in a while.

The advice given on Ririe was pretty good. For a little more specific go to the Juniper launch (near the dam) and work the rocky areas from the ramp all the way to the dam. I like the far side from the ramp myself, but have done well on both sides. Up the reservoir is good as well and same rules apply.

As for Palies I think the kokes are already headed for the creeks, but you never know, perhaps you could nab a late runner. My usual problem this time of year is getting them to hit.

ya i think most of the kokes have headed upstream in palaes this year, doesnt sound like it was a good year for them anyway. ice fishing is a great time to target them though ririe has some good kokes as well.

I've done well for lots of smaller bass with a few better ones at Lamont. I haven't targeted the musky there as I live very close to Newton on the Utah side and tend to go there for my tiger fix. I did see a rather large one near the inlet back in June. The inlet is also the most productive place to fish for the bass as well. The flooded brush on the edges of the creek channel can be really good. I haven't fished Johnson this year but caught a lot of bluegill and some bass flyfishing it last year.

Thank you for the tips. I had no clue about Ririe for sure and will try those out when I get over there. Deifinately some confirmation on the kokanee in Palies from what I thought and will be heading over to Lamont or Johnson soon.
I have not fished "drop shot" style and will be trying those pointers with some gulp minnows on Palies next time out. Thanks and will follow up when I get out.
