Henry's Fork 9/29
#1
Took the munchkin out today to wet a line. started at Ririe but working the shoreline was unproductive and the boats coming in reported slow fishing everywhere they'd been. Gave up after an hour and headed across the back roads to the Henry's Fork north of St. Anthony. I have usually done well there this time of year and hoped for it to work again.

By the time I got there the kid had passed out so I started fishing (in site of the car) and figured I'd give it 5 casts and then wake him up. First cast had nothing. 2nd had a fish on and landed a nice brown that was about 18-20". 3rd cast got me a hard hid that fought a few seconds before throwing the hook. 4th one had another good one on! It started peeling line off like it was nothing! Definitely had my 7 1/2ft med/light rod bent way over. After about 4 minutes I landed an incredible brown that was easily 24" and shaped like a football! Unfortunately I had foul hooked his dorsal fin so I quickly unhooked him while in the water and watched as he bolted off to his hole.

At this point I went to the car and woke the kid up since he would love this kind of fishing. Over the next 90 minutes I landed another 4 fish, with the 2 smallest being 16-18" range and the others at least 20", all were very fat! Only got a pic of one of the small ones since I was trying to unhook, manage the pole, and keep a hyperactive 3 yr old from jumping in the river after the fish. Plus I didn't want to overstress the fish excessively. Hopefully this kind of fishing will hold up 'til the steelies are in.[Smile]

Also threw in 2 pics from my outing to PaliSades last week. the one on the rocks was a big one that was easily 24+". Not a bad day there either. BTW, both those fish were also released.

Hey, what are you using to catch fish at this time of year on the Henry's Fork? As the months go by the fish start taking different baits, lures, or spinners. I'm still relatively new to trout fishing so any advice would help. Thanks.

Great looking fish! I can't even tell you how many times I've caught fish with sleeping
kids in the car! Hah!-loved the story. A friend was up at paliSades last week and caught a
bow he kept -20"er-it was full of mysis shrimp. If you havent tried doing that you'll have
to give it a whirl-just like chasing steelies! The imitations he was using were size 14.

I have tried that up at PaliSades a few times. Problem I've had is with hooks in that size they tended to bend the hook too often! Maybe I just need to try again and loosen the drag some.
