tyler ware, chickamauga, Bass, 9/27/09, Lefty
#1
So I talked Lefty into taking his boat out, no trolling motor and all. Not sure of the water temp because his cheap depth finder does not show temp. Started off in some grass close to Bear Trace. Missed one on a buzz bait. Not ready for a blow up and when it hit I of course jerked too early and pulled the lure out. Had one more hit on a buzz bait that resulted in about 2.5 -3lb LG. No scales or measuring tape on this boat, no net either. This was a fat fat fish. Very different than some of the skinny ones I have seen the last 2 times I have been out. I let Lefty decided where to fish since it was his boat. We tried a couple spots but could not manage it with no trolling motor, wind just kept pushing us, and using oars to stay in place and fish is a tough thing to do. Went to try for some crappie with not much luck. While crappie fishing I see my line start to take off, set the hook and immediately a good looking smallie starts jumping like crazy. Fought it for a few minutes, but every time it got close to the boat it would swim down again. Ended up getting stuck under something about 4 feet under the water. I broke the line trying to get it unhung. So I grabbed the line that was slowly sinking, and walla, the fish came unstuck. So I finished the fight by hand reeling it in. Ended the day catching another smaller LG on a football jig right off the shadow side of a dock. Only got a pic of the smallie, may post it later. I am ready to get my boat on the water again and I will let everyone know where the bass are not.
