[cool][#0000ff]Welllllll....almost. Only 23 degrees when LloydE and I launched our tubes this morning. Ice around the edges anyway. And the mist was so thick we couldn't see each other on the water if we were more than about 50 feet apart. Cool runnings.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We launched about 7:30 into 54 degree water. It warmed up to a balmy 56 by the time we beached the tubes just after noon. And once the sun hit the water and warmed the surface layer there was some "super soup"...a carpet of green algae you could just about walk on.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Lloyd and I both scored early on active rainbows, using my "Marmalady" flies with the hot orange. I also got a small cutt on a gold spinner with orange spots. Oh yeah, I also brung in a yugly chub that slurped a chartreuse bubble bug clear down in its throat. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Flygoddess made it down later, with her purty yellow "banana boat". Once the active bite dropped off on our bright attractor flies, she went technical and got into some steady action...several nice rainbows and a 17" cutt. She was fishing the fairy wand with a sinking line and smaller drab colored flies down near the bottom in 10 - 15 feet of water. I got a few more light hits after the fish mellowed out but they were inexperienced and did not know how to hang on.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I found out what I wanted to find out. The water has cooled enough to get the trout up in the water column and to move them shallow at Rock Cliff. There were a couple of boats anchoring in mid channel, in about 12 to 15 feet of water, and they were bringing in a few bows on orange "power putty". Almost Halloween. Time for the orange binge.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Clear and mostly calm today, with only a nice little "fishing ripple". Once it warmed up a bit, the gloves and ear muffs came off and it was very pleasant.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Joni was top rod with about 8 fish. I did about half that. Neither of us kept anything. Lloyd kept his largest rainbow...about 19"...and a snaky looking cutt about 16". [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We all had a good time without having to fight either the wind or the power squadron. The two or three boats that joined us were pretty respectful and did not mess with us. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Nice.[/#0000ff]
