Kickin' & Chillin" on Jordanelle
#1
[cool][#0000ff]Welllllll....almost. Only 23 degrees when LloydE and I launched our tubes this morning. Ice around the edges anyway. And the mist was so thick we couldn't see each other on the water if we were more than about 50 feet apart. Cool runnings.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We launched about 7:30 into 54 degree water. It warmed up to a balmy 56 by the time we beached the tubes just after noon. And once the sun hit the water and warmed the surface layer there was some "super soup"...a carpet of green algae you could just about walk on.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Lloyd and I both scored early on active rainbows, using my "Marmalady" flies with the hot orange. I also got a small cutt on a gold spinner with orange spots. Oh yeah, I also brung in a yugly chub that slurped a chartreuse bubble bug clear down in its throat. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Flygoddess made it down later, with her purty yellow "banana boat". Once the active bite dropped off on our bright attractor flies, she went technical and got into some steady action...several nice rainbows and a 17" cutt. She was fishing the fairy wand with a sinking line and smaller drab colored flies down near the bottom in 10 - 15 feet of water. I got a few more light hits after the fish mellowed out but they were inexperienced and did not know how to hang on.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I found out what I wanted to find out. The water has cooled enough to get the trout up in the water column and to move them shallow at Rock Cliff. There were a couple of boats anchoring in mid channel, in about 12 to 15 feet of water, and they were bringing in a few bows on orange "power putty". Almost Halloween. Time for the orange binge.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Clear and mostly calm today, with only a nice little "fishing ripple". Once it warmed up a bit, the gloves and ear muffs came off and it was very pleasant.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Joni was top rod with about 8 fish. I did about half that. Neither of us kept anything. Lloyd kept his largest rainbow...about 19"...and a snaky looking cutt about 16". [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]We all had a good time without having to fight either the wind or the power squadron. The two or three boats that joined us were pretty respectful and did not mess with us. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Nice.[/#0000ff]

Seriously. I got there at around 8:00. I am looking all over for Lloyd E and TD. Fog outlined the lake. I could see one boat by the rock wall.
I knew they were there because their vehicles.

I launched and headed for the opposite side.
I didn't see any reports for Jordanelle so I had no idea what to try.
I tried deep nymphing, but no go. Tried a Hot Chocolate had had my forst fish. Nice little 14" Rainbow, but thick.
From that point on, the fog started to lift and I met Lloyd.
I told him I was ready to throw out the Kitchen sink.
Broke down and finally put on a Kelly Galloupe Egg Sucking Sculpin in Brown and a Mity Mouse on my 300 grain Depth Charge line......BINGO!!!!
Three in a row, then four staggered.
Very nice day all in all, but the J has never been one of my favorite lakes.
It earned a little attention today.

Thanks GUYS for the invite. The smoked Kitty was great on the way home.

[cool][#0000ff]Jordanelle stayed pretty full for a long time this year, but then they started dumping water. It is just about the same level it was at this time last year. And, according to my logs it should get better over the next couple of weeks. Very friendly for fly flingers. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Hint: It can be very good late in the afternoon and evening too...when it is warmer.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Glad you could join us Joni. Also glad that the Nelle treated you better. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]When you arrived, both Lloyd and I were way up past the buoy line...in the fog. We didn't see you hit the water but when I saw the banana boat I knew who it was.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also glad you were able to handle getting your rig on and off the trailer by your little own self. And, glad you enjoyed the smoked goodies. I owed ya.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]In the pic I posted of you, there are no visible registration numbers on your craft. One of the guys on the Utah board posted a question about that. Wanna respond?[/#0000ff]

I forgot the ONE side. It is on the other side. Even has the INVASIVE SPECIES sticker from Idaho.
The law stated when I first licensed my tube/toon for a motor, that it was a BOAT.
That means it requires the 3" or 4" (can't remember now) Numbers and letters plus state sticker and year on the side in visible sight.
That means both sides.....whoops on me[laugh]

The law enforcement on this is a little slack, I think due to the fact there has been no set rules put out to them.

Anyway, good catch. I panicked a little when I cam in cause I thought it fell off.

I use a piece of LEXAN and I painted the back side with red paint so you can see the white letters and numbers. Hard to see them on a YELLOW boat.
I also use nylon strap and quick clips. Really easy to put on and take off. Plus the plates fit perfect in my bags.
I don't leave them on in travel as they can fly off and have before.
