I like action , I know Henry's has big fish and I have caught a few . Island Park Res is a lot more fun . last time me and my wife fished it we landed over 40 fish trolling in front of the cabins at Trudes . Three times we had two fish on at the same time and once all three rods we were trolling with had fish on . Most were between 2 and 4 pounds and we lost a couple that would have went 6 . Half of the fish you hook jump, jump, jump until they through the hook . All were caught on Panther Martins size 6 and 9 in Silver blade with yellow body or yellow blade with red spots and yellow body . This time of year I am out there alone and I don't understand it . On weekends I might see two other boats

I think that people haven't got used to the idea that Island Park is back after a few bad years. I know I want to fish it more often and look forward to icefishing it soon.

For fly fisherman does this fish the same as henrys? I am new to the whole fly fishing lakes in the fall. Do you just throw leeches and what not?

In my opinion the big difference between Henrys and Island Park is that the fish eat a lot more minnows in Island Park.
The good areas to fly fish with leeches and nymphs are Trudes Bay and off of the fingers in west end.

Hello all,
I am just new to fishing and have enjoyed learning fly fishing. But trolling is new to me as well. I have been successful puting on a worm and two split shots and using rapalas.
My experience when I try spinners is as follows, when I put on a spinner for trolling I use a swivel with a snap and place eye of spinner directly to snap of swivel. my line always ends up a tangled mess when I reel it in. what am I doing wrong? My boat also has downriggers, is this necessary when fishing Island Park?
thanks anyone for your time and advice.

I am not an expert on trolling but I would put the swivel in between the the mainline and a leader then attach the spinner directly to the leader.

I've had the same problem at times, although I don't troll too often. I would take windriver's advice and try to put a leader between the swivel and the spinner. The other thing I've done is mainline w/ a weight, into a pop-gear, leader, spinner. Haven't tangled that way yet.

Also, at walmart you can buy micro trolling gear that has 4 spinners on it. Perfect for trolling a standard fishing rod w/ a little weight, but not getting too complicated w/ weighted line, downriggers, divers, etc. And it's cheap to.

I've always just tied the spinner,or Rapala right to the main line. Caught quite a few bows and browns and never had any tangles.

When I troll a lot I use ball bearing swivels. The cabelas ones I bought several years ago were the better that the ones at Walmart. At Henerys I use both because the weeds cause you to reel in a lot. If the line twist is bad let the line out without anything on it and troll or drive for a couple of minutes and it will untwist. The barrel swivel up the line works to. Split shots on the line will cause it to twist some times also. It you need to add weight use a keel or a banana shaped weight.

Just got back from 10 days in Island Park . Only fished Henry's on the 17 . The same day they pulled the docks at the State Park . The parking lot was full of people that launched that morning with the docks , but when we came in they were pulled . A lot of people with bigger boats had a hard time loading . Fishing was slow for me and my wife . She caught two , one 5 pounds and one 3 , I got skunked . I did real well at Island Park Res. The rest of the time . My slowest day was 10 fish . All caught trolling . Most were caught on Panther Martins or on Ford Fenders and a nightcrawler . There is one dock in the water at Buttermilk , none at Millcreek . I don't know about the dock by the dam . Never seen more than two other boats on the water a day . Curt G.
