My deer hunting plans collapsed late Sat night. I already had Sunday off to help a buddy find a deer. Now what to do?

Threw the wife and shotgun in the boat. (ok, i asked her nicely if she would like to fish, but that doesn't make for a good story) had to have the shotgun "just in case".

It was a late start from Lindon, around 9:30. figured we didn't need to be early, the fish would get active when it warmed up a bit.

Went to our standard spots using the standard stuff. Hmm, now what? no White Bass. Tried deeper water, non standard places and non standard plastics. Nothin'. Even tried Pat Point, no takers. Geez! just want some catfish bait! So we went to the one place we were guaranteed to get some fish.

As I pulled up to the dock, my wife jumped out and ran to the truck to get the bag of frozen fish we forogt to grab when we launched. GAURANTEED place!

I wanted to go to the knolls, or even the pump house, but we were pressed for time, she had to work mid afternoon. Stuck around our normal places and managed to catch one cat. had another one hooked up, but lost it at the boat. Few more hits, but nothing. The one we caught was in ~2ft of water.

it was a great morning and we had the whole lake to ourselves till about 12:30 when we seen our first boat.
Lake was calm all morning.

Is it me, or does the lake appear to be down about a foot?

[cool][#0000ff]Yep, the lake is about TWO feet down from spring high water. It stayed up longer this year than most years though.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]On my last trip to the Knolls, a couple of weeks ago, I caught fish best in about 4 to 5 feet of water. But as the water continues to cool down they move out into 7 - 8 feet...at least from my logs of the past few years. However, on a nice warm afternoon, with calm conditions, some fish will move into the shallows to get a couple degrees more warmth in the water. That's the time to look for a protected cove or hole in the reeds on the north shore...facing south into direct sunshine. Also time to look for any warm spring spots you might know about.[/#0000ff]

Birds have really been scarce since opening weekend. the weather pattern hasn't been coordinating with my time off very well. it's been great duck hunting weather on the days i work and nice and blue bird on my days off. we keep plugging away at it, but we need some red legs down.

Tex is doing better. just need to get him on some birds soon. he's doing everything right, well almost. the birds haven't been holding up to their end of the deal.

any cats in Lincoln B for a fish and fry? with a few days notice, i can try and make a trip down there. on a Thurs of Friday.

[cool][#0000ff]I'm sure there will be some kitties at Lincoln, but I have about six other waters on my dance card before I have an open dance spot for Utah Lake again. This is the time of year I have trouble deciding which direction to point my fishing pole.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Some of us are planning on Yuba next Friday (30th) but no plans for the following one (Nov. 6). Might be a good time to try for some walleyes and kitties. Of course you know that if we firm up plans at this early date it will be snowing and blowing then, Mama Nature reads this forum and when she gets too much advance notice she really cooks up some great weather for us.[/#0000ff]
