Bassing 10-21-09
#1
Well, I was asked by one of you guys to submitt a report on my fishing trip so ------. Problem is, I can't give up the location, other than it was a S.E. Idaho reservoir because I promised a fellow member not to divulge it and as usual, I forgot my camera. I try hard to keep my promises.
Anyway, for what it's worth, Sparky and I had a great time in our 5 hrs of fishing. Approached the shore with my tube about noon and observed clear water and with that I was able to sight fish in the shallows (for a while). Nothing like walking the shore, spotting a big ol bass, flipping my lure near him, seeing the take and landing it. Love it.[Smile] Problem is, this only lasted a little over an hr. and it turned murky with algae bloom, etc. Don't understand why clear one moment and cloudy the next. [:/] Anyway, did some blind casting from the bank, caught some more and then tubed it for the last few hrs. Ended up with 5 dinks and 14 LM from 13-16 in. The only draw back was they are getting lethargic in the colder weather and don't fight as well. It was cool out there.

Sounds fun. Since they were a little lethargic was the fishing a little slower as well? Do you think you could still do ok with poppers in the morning and evening or does the cold effect them to much?

They might hit a popper, but I wouldn't count on it being consistent with topwater. I hit it last week and did best with small cranks fished slowly with lots of pauses, and with soft plastics like slug gos, Gulp minnows and stick baits fished weightless. Overall, while it's fun site fishing from bank, I caught a lot more earlier in the year fishing deeper. I'm afraid it's trout time for me now.

Speaking of trout, did you get any Leaky? Last week they were very aggressive and hit my little cranks and soft plastics like crazy. I even caught one on a 4 inch slug go.

I caught an 18 incher last the time before and thought I had a nice bass.[frown] Last time no trout. What I really enjoyed was the sight fishing!!!! Seems to me I had as good as luck as usual, just more lethargic. Are you sure you want to give it up??? I'm waiting or the water flows to go down a little or in the Narrows. I have a spot to do some sight fishing for smallies and that's even better. Don't think I've given up on these guys yet.[Smile] I have an area on the Weeb. for nice trout and ducks (combo), but won't go until way after hunting deer season so Sparky won't get shot for a deer. He looks too much like a deer.[mad]

Well, maybe I'll hit it again, I'll just be sure to bring my fly rod in case the trout are more willing. The forecast looks pretty bad next week with highs around 40 and lows in the upper teens all week. Maybe even some snow. That's really going to slow the bass down.

I have been playing with tigers lately though[inline "tiger small.JPG"], and that has been pretty fun. Yesterday they were circling my tube like sharks. It was kind of creepy, but they weren't very aggressive. I finally coaxed one to bite, but it took a lot of work.

As for The Narrows, I was kind of discouraged by the smallies. I only caught a few smaller fish. The areas where I usually catch them were full of trout that kept wacking my swimbait. So I gave up and went after them with a fly rod and had a lot of good action.

Yeah, it's my go to place when I don't have much time as it's just down the road. It's a lot nicer this time of year since the ski boats are gone. I still think they should make that place wakeless.
