Got to the water at 3 for some rest and relaxation. That didn't happen. The spots we fished had schoolers all over them and some of them were pretty big! The problem was getting them to bite a bait emoBang. We stopped on a point and a few times had fish all over the boat and still no hookups. I finally got bit on a Storm wildeye jig and had a nice smallie in the boat. All evening we finally figured out they just wanted a swimbait and it had to be moveng FAST!I got a couple on a crankbait as well but the good bite was the swimbait. We fished the point and moved back in the slough and hooked maybe 3 more and one Jason hooked I think was the biggest. I didn't put it on scales but it was fat and looked 3 and a halfish. It puked out a pretty big shad. emoScratch This kind of me considering all the shad they were chasing were in the 1 to 2 inch range in size. The one he threw up was probably 4 inches or more! emoVomit We stopped in one last pocket on our way back down river and hooked some more nice aggressive fish and I hooked another smallmouth right on the bank. I thought I was snagged until he shot out of the water. I lost him at the boat but he was bigger than the one I caught on the first point. Water was in the low 60's and we fished shallow in 8ft. and less. The big smallie was probably in less than a foot emoEek. I don't know the numbers or what our best five was but we did pretty good. I was getting a little stressed out trying to find a bait they would hit but once we found one that was all we needed. I think Jason outnumbered me once again emoMad. We had a great time.
