[cool][#0000ff]Ended up with an open spot on my dance card this week...tomorrow. Most areas are supposed to start getting breezy by afternoon, but I wanna get in a last shot at Huntington before absolute zero hits and I need an auger to launch my tube.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]TubeBabe is out of town (again) so I will be flying solo...if anybody wants to ride share.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Leaving Salt Lake about 4:30 and will probably be blown off the lake by about noon.[/#0000ff]

Wish I could make it especially since its probably the last decent day this week, but I have software training starting at 11:00.
I'll probably just run up to RockCliff for a couple of hours on my way to work.
Good luck with the tigers!

[cool][#0000ff]Thanks Peter. I will use my skills at mental telepathy to send you some fun feelings across the miles while I am reeling in those pretty tiger trout.[/#0000ff]

Would love the tug, but a little too far. Now if they were in the 18" + then no question about freezing toes and long roads.
Good luck there[ ]

[cool][#0000ff]WIMPESS Only 2 hours. Less than Idaho. But a one day turnaround ain't for everyone. I'm a terminal masochist.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]My game plan tomorrow is to fish BIG. I have been using tackle and techniques that catch a lot of fish, but don't always catch the bigguns. Gonna ramp up a bit tomorrow and try to get bendo on something larger. There are some up to 26" in that pond. Trouble is, they live on fish the size I have been catching and don't bother to floss with the flies I use. Taking minnows and crankbaits.[/#0000ff]

I would just go deep FAST with big flies...that is my BIG FISH strategies[ ]
Don't get me wrong, the Tigers would be fun, but with the cooler days and the weather being MORE unpredictable (meaning wind) I prefer closer to home.
Many a times drove all the way to the Berry to not be able to launch due to 4' white caps.
I have a nice little lake about 15 minutes away that has some monsters I might have to try.

[cool][#0000ff]Bugle-mouth browns? Nothing wrong with those. They are fun to fool and they pull hard.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Big tiger trout feed like big brown trout. Usually nocturnal and they only feed once every few days. They raid a school of smaller fish and gulp down two or three at a time. Then they just veg out and digest their meal. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]No matter how good you are with a fairy wand, just sinking a bigger fly is not always going to get the job done. Tough to provoke a reaction bite. You gotta have good timing and be lucky enough to fish something attractive in front of them when they are in the mood to munch. I have seen big ol' tigers just swim right by a school of prime minnows when they are not hungry.[/#0000ff]

No, I am talking Trout Lake 15 minutes away. No keeping but I don't anyway.
I am familiar with Tigers, but it does sound like anything will work right now at Huntington according to other reports.
And Big fish and me just seem to get along[ ]
But, when the fish are picky, they aren't going to ignore just flies...I have seen them ignore anything and everything, just like the Henry's Lake monsters.
Bouncing something off their nose can do it but that something could be a lure, a worm, power bait or a fly.
Sounds like you don't have much faith in flies.[laugh]
As far as Timing.....we are talking Fly Fishing? It is all about timing.[ ]

[cool][#0000ff]I know whereof you speak. Part of the name rhymes with bell. Right? There are some big fish in there but lots of no fish days. It can be tough.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]No faith in flies? I have been tying and using flies longer than you have been alive. I have caught just about every species of fish in the country on flies. And, I have caught some huge fish on small flies...like a 52 pound salmon on the Smith River on a size 6 fly. Have also caught a lot of salt water fish on flies...including 100 pound plus sailfish and striped marlin over 200 pounds.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Yeah baby, I believe in flies. But, unlike yourself, I do not believe that you can always catch fish on flies even if they are not hitting anything else. Not sure why or how it happened but I have sorta moved more toward other kinds of fishing over the years. I still fish flies...just not with the long rod as much. [/#0000ff]

I stick with my flies, and no worm or any other kind of meat attached. No spray on scent. My choice, and it works for me well enough I haven't switch to other methods.
Just my preference.
If you were doing so well with flies, what made you switch?
You are right on the lake. I have never been skunked there, but it can be tuff.
Stick a big one for me!

I would join you but two reasons keeping me in.
1. Toon still out of service
2. Mamatrout has medical procedure in morning.
So good luck and catch a biggun'.

[cool][#0000ff]As I said, I still USE flies...I just fish them differently. I was born into a family of flyrod wavers and still enjoy the sport, but it has been an evolutionary thing. I didn't just wake up one morning and say "I ain't gonna fish with a flyrod no more".[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have been blessed with the opportunities to travel the western hemisphere and to fish a whole lotta fishing holes...fresh water and salt. I have been able to pursue just about every species available in our part of the world and there aren't many left to add to my fishing resume. I am properly grateful.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]My point is that I became a passionate angler early in life and I have never restricted myself to fishing only one way...nor have I excluded anything. I have tried everything at least once and some things I have made a permanent part of my arsenal. Fly fishing is still in there somewhere but just doesn't get used much any more.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I respect your preferences for the fly rod and flies. So be it. I also respect your skills at both fly tying and fly fishing. I would never suggest that you are wrong in your outlook. As we have agreed on several issues, it is a matter of personal opinion and that is what makes us who we are.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Loved your condescention that a good ol' worm is sometimes better. But, we ain't gonna change your handle to Wormgoddess.[/#0000ff]

Not a chance. I just mentioned the worm as a matter of fact. I will go home empty handed before using a worm.
The whole idea of fly fishing is, no crap under my nails, and hands don't smell....[laugh] Heck I don't even have to touch the fish if I don't want to. (by not touching I mean little human contact for safety of fish with barbless hook. Just grab barbless hook and turn, fish gone with all it's slim intact)
Like you I made my mind up many years ago. I just remember watching my sister in-law one year. I rigged up a fly rod, showed her a basic casting. She got that all down and even caught a fish.
Then the next day, catching was a little slower (for her at any rate) and I looked over at her just in time to see her pick up her spinning outfit and begin to false cast. Quite amusing.
