I herd there was 3" of ice on the lake. I will have confirmation on that tomorrow morning. I was told they fishing on it to day over by staley. Nocked the crap out of them in shallows. I be heading there as soon as possible! For the steelhead trip i got skunked! Went down past middle fork by bear creek sat, buddie landed 2 thats it. I brought the wife for the first time she did good for being the first time steelheading.I don't think i got much fishing i was busy showing her stuff and tying rigs up. Sun fished between northfork and salmon nothing no body touched a fish. I think water temp dropped and shut it down. It was 8 below in stanley friday nigh so if ya did not hit them in the lips yea weren't going get them. Oh well had fun with the wife and friends.. March coming up and orfino bound i am. Once ya go there you don't wanna go to salmon ever, it ruins ya on big fish and action. But ice fishing here and i going to hit it hard. Starting with henrys and islandpark go from there.

ya i noticed the last 3 days have been below 0 in stanley. the water temp below the middle fork is down around 35 so unless we get a warm spell to warm it up i think the fall fishing will slow down to a crawl.

That is good to hear if it is true that there is 3" of ice. That was quick. I caught 12 around the Shoup area last weekend in 16 hours. I am glad I went dowh there. It was 13 degrees on Sunday morning and that is cold in a tent.

Kennyshmoo, any updates on the ice? Just curious if you were able to make it up on the 18th. We're hoping to hit the ice on Henrys for our first time ever the day after Thanksgiving. For you that have ice fished at Henrys in the past, what is the typical rig? In other waters I've typically used tube jigs tipped with wax or mill worms. Are normal night crawlers pretty useful? Everyone's reports and updates are much appreciated.

I have been quite sucessfull using everything, however, white "glow" tube jigs, pink tube jigs, and orange below a flasher on a 18' leader tipped with crawler has worked well for me. I will probably have the life vest on tomorrow and tip toe out.

Welcome back Ovidcreek. It is that time of year again. I wore my life vest yesterday. It was probably not needed in one spot but defineately needed in another so that kind of tells how the lake is right now good in spots yet very dangerous in others.

How was the fishing Windriver. I think I've official given up on filling my elk tag, so I think I'll probably head up there tomorrow. I heard from a guy who was up there yesterday evening and he only hooked into one big one that broke his line, and thats all he touched. He said ice was about 4".
