Can you drive there with a car or do you access it by snow machine?

Hey Maghunter,
I was the guy that came over to talk to you after you left the dam. We left that reservoir and went over to Chesterfield. It was excellent there. Couldn't keep them off our lines. Anyways, just thought I'd say hi again. Attached is my biggest of the day from there.

My neighbor showed me some pictures of some monster fish he caught there last winter. I've wanted to ice fish it for a long time but I don't have a snow machine. Now is your chance to ice fish it without a snow machine, I just wish the fishing had been better. If you check the stocking reports there are a ton of fish in there somewhere.

We drove up from Ammon on the Bone road. As of yesterday you could easily drive there in a car. The road is gravel but its in great shape hardly any washboards at all.

Welcome to the board. We debated going to Chesterfield but I've always wanted to ice fish Blackfoot. Did you drive to Chesterfield on the back roads or did you go back to the Freeway? If you took the back roads how were they, how long did it take from Blackfoot res? Looking on the map they aren't that far apart.

Thx Maghunter. We did take the backroads. They weren't too bad and it was scenic. A little snow is all. I just used the gps on my iphone to get me there. It took maybe 30 mintues to get to chesterfield from blackfoot. I guess my picture from chesterfield didn't attach the last time I tried so here it is. Meal worms with anything pink or white seemed to be the magic combo. Super clear ice, about 8-9 inches. I fished on the west side in 17 feet of water. They were mostly in towards the bottom. We had to leave when we ran out of bait. Great day though!

I don't know the area that well so it's hard to explain. I just followed the dirt roads that my iphone map told me to go on. You do have to go over a small peak, so it may be difficult with the snow. It took about 30 minutes w/o having to deal with too much snow. Sorry I can't give you any better info. My suggestion would be to just head straight to Chesterfield :-)

Most people go to Chesterfield by driving past Lava Hot Springs , Over Fish Creek Pass like you are heading to Soda Springs . The road is a lot better and open all winter long . After the first big snow storm you need a snow machine to get to Blackfoot Res. If you want to get to Chesterfield from Blackfoot Res. Cross the dam heading mostly south . When you come to the first intersection keep going strait . If you turn right there it will take you to Morgans bridge on Blackfoot River . I think it is about 30 minutes on dry roads from the dam to Chesterfield . Curt G.
