Bear Lake Report and Cisco Update 1/11/10
#1

Bear Lake still remains open water. However, there is quite a bit of ice floating around on the surface in large sheets. Deicers are running at the State Park marina but they have not been able to keep up and boat launching in not possible at the marina at this time. Boats are being launched from shore near the rockpile area and off the Cisco Beach boat ramp. Depending on wind direction, it can stack up ice and make launching/loading boats difficult and dangerous. As for fishing on the lake, anglers are beginning to catch a few cisco from boats off the rockpile using jigging spoons (such as a castmaster). Fishing has also been good for both cutthroat and lake trout in 40-60’ of water using tube jigs tipped with cisco off the rockpile area. No cisco have been sighted along the shorelines. Beginning next Monday we will begin making daily checks for Cisco and updating the answering machine report at the Bear Lake office. Due to the sheer number of call during the day, PLEASE ONLY CALL AFTER 5:00pm. 435-946-8501
