Strawberry overnighter

Headed up the Berry on Friday night for an "all night fish-for-all". Launched the snowmobiles from the Marina and headed south. Within a minute of dropping our first line into the water, up came a 21" cut. Nice and healthy looking fish. Fishing was consistent throughout the night. The best bite came around 11 pm. We caught all cuts, all within the slot. Nothing over 22, however we could have stretched the Tongues of a few fish to make them legal!

We had the lemons and seasoning ready for a legal fish![/b][/i]

Many groups kept moving around us, without much luck. We fished our same holes for the most part and landed more than 40 fish. We must have been camped on someone's honey hole, because three different groups kept moving closer to our camp.

We also got buzzed by a low flying airplane with a LOUD engine. That was a first while ice fishing.

Lots of groups on the ice. There were also a bunch that were staying the night!

We camped out overnight as well Friday night. Saturday that same plane buzzed us in the Narrows. After it flew over us it looked like it was flying straight into the mountainside across the canyon. I about messed my pants watching it thinking we were going to be going to assist pull some dead guys out of the mountainside, then it turned and buzzed another group. Crazy!

Are you guys camping on the lake itself? How are you not freezing to death?

I'd be interested in knowing how the fishing is at 3 a.m. compared to say, 6 a.m.

Yes, we camped right on the ice!

Camping on the ice is no different than camping in snow caves or at the Klondike Derby. Bring a good sleeping bag, cot and a tent. We take the CampChef and some dutch ovens and really make it a party.

We often stay all night on Flaming Gorge, if you are a light sleeper I do not recommend FG. That lake pops like no other. I thought Fishlake was noisy, spend a few hours on the Gorge.

I wish I could tell you that the fishing was better at 3am as opposed to 6 am, but the only thing I was catching at that time were zzzzz's. I will say that the bites are usually consistant throughout the night. When it slows a bit, that is when you close your eyes and snooze. I am sure we missed some bites, but gotta sleep sometime!

That is awesome! Sounds like I'm going to have to try camping on the ice this year.
