Summer Trip Questions
#1
I am planning on visiting Richfield on July fourth. I want to hit up Fish Lake, and want to target Lake Trout and Splake. I also want to find some Tiger Trout. Firstly, is Fish Lake any good around the fourth? Also are there any good spots close to Richfield to target Tiger Trout? Also what are some good tactics to get the Splake and Macks at Fish Lake? Thanks in advance for the help.

This one is a little harder to answer. July 4th is quite a while off - hard to say what the fishing will be like then. July 4th weekend will likely be the busiest fishing day of the entire year anywhere you go. You will need a boat - Fish Lake is not easy to fish from the shore. That said, Fish Lake may be great fishing on the 4th. I have lots more experience fishing through the ice there - but the few times I have gone in the summer, trolling was the most successful. There are lots of other guys on this site that are more knowledgeable than me on summer fishing at FL. I suspect they are still in hard deck mode. Be patient, they will get around to your questions. Good luck

My biggest concern is all the other people I will have to deal with, but I think that will be the only time I can get down there. Hopefully everyone will decide to go somewhere else that week. Also, I understand the timing of my question is a little off with all the ice fishing, just trying to plan ahead. Maybe the ice fishing will be so good that the diehards will take a few minutes off to rest and then I might get some more responses. Thanks for the response though.

haven't been there in july but I do a trip in June every year and it's usually just as the moss is starting to take over, I'd expect by July the lake is only fishable from a boat and the fish are deeper by the time the temperature gets hotter, which either means downriggers or vertical jigging. Like I said, never fished it much later than June, but that's what I'd guess

I've been down there the last 2 years around the 4th. It isn't a bad time, providing you have a boat. If fishing from the shore though, I wouldn't want to do it. You really need to get out past the weed line.
The hot setup last year was 3" tube jigs tipped with fish meat or a piece of worm. I've included a picture of the lure. Also caught them on power bait and on worms. Trolling, we caught them on lucky craft pointers and rapalas in trout colors. Also picked up a few jigging a gold castmaster, and picked up a few fly fishing with a black & red wooly bugger. As far as depths, they were really all over the place...anywhere from right under the boat to 90 feet.
