Vetierinary orthopedic sergeons?
#1

Well for those that haven't read my previous post on what happened to Sparky on another forum, the short version is he injured his left shoulder/leg duck hunting, took him to the vet and diagnosis after e-rays, no bone damage, soft tissue. Anti inflammatories and min, activity. took him into the vet for a 2 wk follow up and she said he's worse!!!! [Image: icon_cry.gif] At best he's the same with very little improvement. She expected a lot better results!!! More x-rays, nothing. He's now scheduled to be examined by a specialist in a little longer than a week.
My question - the Specialist is Dr. Dale Smith, orthopedic surgeon, know nothing about him. Anyone have any comments on him or who I might go to for a second opinion if advisable? This is my best bud and I'm really worried about him so I want to make sure he's getting the best diagnosis. Any help woudl be greatly, greatly appreciated. I have personal experience with Dr. Smith. The guy does amazing work. Be ready he proud of his work if you know what I mean.

1 year and a half ago my 6 month old puppy broke her back leg on the growth plate. My vet said he couldnt do anything and recommended I find a vet ortho. I researched and found Dale. That evening he had me bring the xrays to his house. As I pull down his private driveway toward his million dollar house I said to my wife this is going to be expensive.

I show him the xrays and he says he can fix it but cant guarantee stunted growth on her leg since it was on a growth plate. THen follows that comment up by saying in a somewhat conceeded voice that while this is a possibility he has never had a dog with this type of injury end up with stunted growth. Two days later was the surgery and after it was done he assured me it went extremely well and should have not future problems (which there has been none) I asked him about hunting and aggressive work with her and he said the broken leg will be stronger than her other leg.
2 months ago he repaired a torn ACL on my buddies dog (my dogs brother) with extreme success.

The guy has put in his time and with further investigation I found he is known as one of the best vet orthos in the entire country. But he comes at a price. My dogs surgery was $1850 and my buddy just forked $2100. I highly recommend Dr. Smith

Let me know how Sparkinator does. After my experience and my friends Matt's, we both learned we went into the profession. Dale definitely has a niche!
