Tips for Palisades Reservoir?
#1
We are staying in a cabin near PaliSades and are going to do some fishing. Its been a few years since we've ice fished up there and we've never done all that good on the ice up there. Does anybody have any tips for us. Send me a PM if you want. Thanks in advance for any help, I will post a report with pics on Sunday.

What I've done the best on in the past is a 3" orange power bait grub but I break the body off so it is just the tail portion that I put on my jig head. Worms work OK but not the best, try sucker meat. Typically the bite is early morning and over between 0930 and 1030. I have caught 30 plus fish on that set up between daylight and 0930 and never less than 12. I how ever am not going to tell you my spot you are on your own there. Have your holes drilled before daylight. I have heard that some people like to fish it after dark too.

3" glow in the dark grub tipped with worm-at least this was the bait of choice last time we were there....early was better as prettyfish said. Normally orange is also the color of choice

Well we got skunked. Fished Big Elk and only got one stinking bite. We tried every color and every combo of jigs and bait, fished anywhere from 15' to 60' of water. Plenty of fish showing up on the fish finder but they weren't in the mood for being caught. I have yet to catch a fish ice fishing up there, I don't know what my problem is but I must have bad luck when it comes to that lake. Thanks for the tips.

That's pretty typical of PaliSades. Somedays it's great, other days it sucks !!

We thought about going to PaliSades Saturday but Windriver thought we might do better at Magic. On the way to Magic he had a hunch to stop at Fish Creek Reservoir because we were running late and he didn't want to miss the morning bite. His hunch paid off we had good fishing in the morning it was slow midday but picked up again in the afternoon. We never made it to Magic because the fishing was so good at Fish Creek. Windriver will probably post a report so I will let him fill in the details.

I would be a little suspect of what your finder is telling you at big elk. There are a lot of suckers and chubs that suspend out there. Put a little jig tipped with a nightcrawler on and you will find out what I'm talking about. I am personally not to fond of big elk. But to each there own.
Good Luck and happy fishing
