I am thinking of hitting Huntington, Cleveland, Electric Lake this weekend. I have never fished any of them before. Any tips? Are any of those waters worth it during the winter?
Thanks,
RL

Auger extension, and red side shiners.
Get away from the dam at Elake.
Snowshoes if you're going to hike into Cleveland.
Elake and Huntington can produce good fishing. Never fished Cleveland.

We have fished electric lake a couple of times with really god success for the tiger trout. Snow shoes will really help. the last time we were at elake, we didn't need an extension for the auger. It does get really cold, but can be worth the walk. we may go on Saturday, so if you go stop by and say hello.

I was told last week that Huntington has over 30 inchs of Ice and deep snow and lots of Slush. After that report I did not go. But if you go, punch your holes about 40 yards out from the middle of the dam. Thats where they were just before the hard deck last fall.
Let us now the conditions.

Huntington may be good (varies day to day -- depends on if you catch it the right day) with smaller jigs tipped with crawlers and minnows. Count on snow of at least two feet deep and ice of about 40 inches thick (may also be slush). Park by the dam in the parking area that should be plowed. Try the entire water column, including just a foot or so under the ice.
Electric Lake is likely good for cutts, tiger trout and a few rainbow. Access Electric Lake by driving past Huntington and the next lake that you see on your left will be Electric Lake (you will first pass Cleveland on your right). Hopefully, they will have the small parking area by the dam plowed. Park by the dam and walk down the dam (steep and may be lots of snow, but at least with the higher water the hike isn't very far). A long rope helps in dragging a sled up the dam. The same bait that works at Huntington will work at Electric Lake.
Cleveland is the next reservoir on your right after passing Huntington. It is a longer walk to the ice, through plenty of snow, than either of the other reservoirs and the fishing will probably be slower than the other two. One has the chance of catching a larger rainbow at Cleveland. Jigs tipped with crawlers, waxies and mealworms would be good bets for Cleveland.

Thanks for the advice. Based on the depth of the ice, I think I'll look for a different place to fish. I have a hand auger so even though I like building muscle, that is a little extreme![:p] I'll have to hit those spots earlier in the season.
Thanks guys,
RL

Thanks for the advice, I think the ice will be too thick for me. I want to try to hit it with my float tube once things thaw out!

Got it all except the power auger and extension. I think I'll pass. Thanks for saving me the drive to only find out that it won't be worth it till I get a power auger.
