I passed Willard Monday evening going south on I-15. The light was dim but it was easy to see it is still iced over. Still too early for launching.

how's willard right after ice off? How do you fish it until things really warm up?

I was at Rockport on Sunday, it still has a good 12" of ice. The west side edges appeared to be "iffy" in some places, but the east side is still solid. I don't belive it will be ice free for at least 3-4 weeks if not longer. It would take a really good warm spell and a lot of wind to get it off earlier. Strawberry is usually April. Deer creek and Jordanelle will be much sooner.

[#000000]How’s Willard right after ice off? How do you fish it until things really warm up?[/#000000]
[#000000]I do OK after ice off at Wuillard, I troll at a very slow rate 1.0-1.5 at the most, line out 100’ and jigging works, look for the deeper parts of Willard that’s where the big ones hung out during the winter. When trolling use white bottom blue gray top and a touch of red around the face, about 2” long, and a med diver. For jigging use white with green specks, curly tail, drop to the bottom then raise up 6” off the bottom, if you want put some chub on the hook and you will do OK.[/#000000]
[#000000]Looking at my notes I did this last year and landed some wiper, the walleye was not active till later on in the year. GOOD LUCK[/#000000]

(Willard Ice conditions)
N. Marina:
Yesterday I was fishing on the main lake at willard out from the N. Marina (skunked). Ice is a clear foot and a half thick. Temps up in this area have only been getting a few degrees above freezing during the day so unless that changes, it will be a while before willard has open water.
S. Marina:
A considerable amount of water is dumping into willard from the canal and the channel is open from the spillway to about 100 yards towards the bay. The lake level is beginning to rise.
