Loveridge Bridge Area
#1
Does anyone fish the Loveridge Bridge Area? Is it actually part of the CJ Strike or is it more river there? Is there much current? Is the fishing very good in that area?

I have not fished it my self. I know there are guys that launch there to go fishing up stream for cats, and down stream for sturgeon. I am planning on a pontoon float trip from there to the crane falls area this spring. Ron

I was wondering about the same kind of thing. Floating down to Crane or if no current just fishing in the area of the bridge and back.

I had the chance last week to fish this area. We launched the boat at the bridge and went upstream. We were actually looking to catch a cat, but didn't hook up. Might be a little early? Anyway we caught a few suckers, a couple perch, and a nice trout. There is plenty of current to float down. We only fished for a couple hours upstream and drifted back down to the launch. The trout was caught bottom bouncing on the drift back to the boat launch. Hope this helps a little anyway.

We always refer to Loveridge Bridge as the demarcation point between lake and river. Downstream of the bridge is the lake. Not sure if there is an official line, but it works for us.

The launch is 10 minutes from my house. I fish there a lot. Right now ID power is running 3 turbines almost all day long, and there is a ton of current, but it would take all day to float to Crane. Once thinbgs slow down in the late spring (or now depending on the draw throught the dam) you may never get there. It is mostly private property for the first 3 miles on the north side, and there is private on the south, so bugging out and hiking back may be a problem. The top few miles on the south side is open land. If you have a boat for support, I think it might be do-able, just hope for a downstream wind. Getting a 20 mph wind from the west would stop you cold. It maigh take you a week or so to make the float if you get the wrong winds... Wink

There is good fishing for bass, perch, crappie, cats, sturgeon, trout, carp, bluegill, pretty much everything (depending on what part of that section you are in).

Water depth varies from very shallow to over 40 feet in there. My suggestion is stay toward the center till you get to the three middle islands then veer left around them, that way you will follow the channel (with the most current). once you get to the 1st pump house on the south shore, the channel follows the south shore past the corner.

Thank you Waterskipper and Mojo1.
That is exactly the kind of information that I needed! I really appreciate you taking the time explain all of that.

Is there a place on the web where I can check to see how much water is being drawn through the dam?

thanks again!!
