Headed to strawberry tomorrow(hopefully). I have only fished strawberry a couple of times. Had mixed success with cuts and rainbows but have never caught any kokanee up there. Was wondering if anyone had any tips they would be willing to share? What used and where. Or maybe this is the wrong time of the year to be going after them and if so when is the best time to fish for them.

Howdy GotFish, what part are you planing on fishing and what method? Float tube, boat, shore fishing? There are many ways to attack that lake, just need to know your method.

There are so many options. There have been many posts about how to produce fish at the berry. And welcome to the board! The best success that we had last weekend was in the Chicken Creek area. We sat on the boat about 15 yards from shore, about 25 feet deep and sunk a worm from a sinker about 24" of leader. Power bait did nothing for us and we did not troll. Here is the post I made on that trip:

I've never had any luck with the Kokes up there. If you could find the fish, I'm sure they would take any standard Koke tackle, such as a z-ray, triple teaser, or wedding ring. However if you don't have a way of getting down to the fish, like a downrigger, diver, or leaded line, you won't have much luck just long-lining it. They'll probably be 20-50 feet down. I was up there last weekend, and it was fairly slow. I only boated 4 fish, but I did miss a lot as well. We trolled at 1.2-1.5 MPH, targeting fish that we marked down 30 feet. Most fish last weekend hit a Kokanee king tipped with a worm. However a green Apex produced a few hits as well. I've heard that trolling with white tubes, with a little sweetener works good as well. If you are marking fish, stop and jig a white/cream/glow tube and I think you'd convince quite a few to strike. We fished the Renegade area, perhaps a different part of the lake would be more productive. Good luck, and welcome to the boards.

Back when my boat was on the water , I use to go for the kokes . I used leaded line and ford fender pop gear ( brass and chrome ) and next a rubber snubber . Then about 2 to 3 ft of leader and a wedding ring spinner in the red or chartreuse . Wedding ring spinners come with the leader but need the rubber snubber because they (kokes) have soft mouths . If you fish with a worm added to it you will catch cutts too . I always did good around Haws point to the northwest in 65' of water . Try anywhere with 3 to 6 colors of line out . Finding the bigger fish can be anywhere . but I have done good right in front of the Strawberry marina and Mackinaw bay . Most boats pass this area up . I trolled mostly with the wind and with a electric trolling motor to keep on course .I also did good with dodgers and triple teasers . Most kokes when hooked come up to the surface in a hurry and do a tail dance . Good fighters just need to get them on lighter tackle would be even more fun . Good luck
