WOW jeff nice smallie! makes me wanna get the boat out and take a trip down there. I know the section of river you are fishing just by looking at the picture there. I don't think it would be safe to put my boat in there. I think it would be to shallow and my motor would get beat up. I could bring my little 12' aluminum john boat down though and put the motor on its shallow runner. I would be to afraid of putting my new boat in down there. I would love to be getting me some of those hogs though. Making me hungry for my trip to Erie in May. Way to make the cabin fever 10 times worse jeff lol.

BTW if you need any of them hair jigs just let me know and i can hook ya up. I'll need to know what size and color you want though. TTYL

Jeff, do you tip your hair jigs with a curly tail grub or anything else? What colors do you normally use? I've heard using hair jigs in cold water for smallies is excellent, but I've never tried it. I mostly just use tubes...

Sweet. I got a trip booked already on july 10th in Ohio. So once i get that paid for we can talk. BTW how do you rid your Jigs to catch smallies? Do u float them under a bobber like fishing for crappie or what?? I may try it up Erie if i go right at ice off.

Hello BPG
The smallies are on fire on the river . I was out this past sat. We caught over 25 smallies. We had a tournament on the river but we only had one keeper over 18inches . We had about 17 fish over 17 inches but did not keep. and that sucks but the fishing was still awesome. This time of year its 18inch size and 3 fish in tournaments . till june it goes back to 15inches .

LOL i know how you feel! i remember in some tournaments i fished that i was catching a pile just under size. some of them i wish i could just stretch a hair. my dad was like keep it and i was like no! You know how it goes when u bring a fish in to small, you loose weight. these fish were just so close. i actually thing the same fish was following us around the lake and we kept catching him lol.

Anyway, its good to hear that you are getting out and catching some nice sized fish. I plan on getting out sunday morning for some pike action, that is if the weather is nice for us. Ill keep you posted.
