[fishin] Has anyone had any luck landing a steelhead with a flyrod so far this spring? I tried a few times last spring but not alot of luck so far. I've got a 13' Spey rod and g loomis 8 wt. I've practiced and had some lessons with my spey rod but I'd like to hook one on my 8 wt.

Yup... My buddy and I landed 20 on Sunday and Monday on a fly on the Salmon. Actually I haven't caught one on anything but.. I was using a 7 weight and an 8 weight would probably be better..

I use 10-12 pound test with floating line.. Fish holes you can get your flies to the bottom (7-10 ft)..

Anyone else on here been getting them on the fly this year... Its a record year so this could be your best bet to do so...

My wife, Sol and I will be heading to Salmon this weekend too....I think everybody has gone up why not us?
We will try fly rods only if the fishing is easy (our setup is too light)...we dnt know how to drift flies very well yet but rookies in both aspects to steelheading spinning gear or fly fishing.....will post details if I am successful on a fly rod...
good luck everyone......
Match and Sol
