Think'n this was our last hard deck trip on PV this season.
Arrival temp was 16* departure 34*.
Launch point was via the Stringtown Road. Few bare spots on the trail leading to the ice.
Ice Condition:
Edges are firm and solid from the Stringtown path. Ice has 'no-slush' at all walked on the very top never busting through the entire day. First 6-8" is frozen pretty much solid then as the auger popped through it would drop down 3" to the next previous slush layer. Today for sure it would've been safe for ATVs and I'm think'n tomorrow also (depending on this forecasted storm). Still about 12-14" of solid black ice beneath 8-10" of frozen slush. Ice was singing to us mainly in the mid morning. Saw one snowmobile coming on the ice as we were leaving at a little after 5. I've included pictures of ice shots to give you an idea of the ice.
Fish'n rating was very good.
Started out in deeper water 42-45' in search of Crappie. Only takers were dink Perch and one dink Crappie. Worked the deeper water in hopes of finding them Crappie. Decided to move in to 32-35' and found the nice size Perch. Lures used were Ants tipped with Perch eye/meat. An older gent came on the ice about 3PM and setup about 50' from us and found the Crappie. Only fish visting our offerings and topside were Perch...and the dink Perch were out in force.
Think'n the PV ice will be good for a few more days and it will all depend on what type of storm possibly for tomorrow. Next week with really warm temps predicted this weekend may be the last for PV unless it gets really cold.
Sure hope you all have a great weekend....
