Scofield 3/13
#1
Yet another report for Scofield...I think just about everyone that was on the lake has posted. Not many people fishing. Few in the dam arm, few by the cabins, a scout troop who spent the night across from the island. I bypassed them all and headed around to the west side. I was all alone until a couple and their little boy showed up. Quite fun to watch the kid go from reeling in his parents fish, to watching his own pole, setting the hook, and landing fish all by himself. Fishing was fast enough that he didn't lose interest and was really quite good by the time they left.

I started fishing about 8:00. Ice and edges are good. Fast fishing in 9 feet of water, using a jighead tipped with crawler, catching cookie cutter bows and cutts with the occasional tiger. Unlike other weeks, this week I did get into some good sized cutts. I had all but given up on catching anything with any size this year. Nice to know there are still a few good sized fish left in Scofield.

In general, I didn't think there were all that many chubs in Scofield as I wasn't catching that many and it didn't seem others were either. There was always the occasional report of lots of chubs, but I didn't see too many. Last week I caught 59 chubs and on the way off the ice I decided to see if they were still there. I fished for chubs for an hour and I'll post a pic of the chubs I caught. I'm a believer now. Scofield has a chub problem[:/] If there is a good note, though, I did catch considerably more tigers, and big cutts in with the chubs. In a year or two I'm hoping the Scofield cutts can become what Strawberry is producing. Seems to be plenty of chubs to eat. I caught a bow that puked up a 2 inch minnow (that was still wiggling) so at least they are trying! I left the chubs to feed the crows and coyotes.

So that was this week on Scofield. Next week it's Scofield again with the neighbor, and his two kids! Not many weeks left...the canadian geese showed up this week, so spring can't be far behind...

Nice Fish! Some of the best I've seen come out of there this winter. Sadly, every other yearI have hit the ice out there, those were close to average. Some smaller, and some bigger, but now it seems you got a "GOOD" one if it is over about 12".
Oh well, they'll grow up.

I agree. The goal used to be 20", and it happened often. Now I feel good to catch on in the15" slot. Oh well, still my favorite place to fish, and they will grow up.
