Ogden River ?
#1
Hi All,

I'm going to be in Ogden tomorrow and was thinking about trying to get a couple hours of fishing in. Is the 'in town' section of the river worth checking out? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't fished the ogden in a while but the upper section is where most folks fish or within a mile of the mouth of the canyon. That being said, the 'in town' section of the river is worth checking out also. There are plenty of fish in the whole river, so you never know where you could find a big old hog.[Wink]

I am not as sure about the early season for this. But from May through the rest of the summer if you put on a size 2-4 minnow pattern on a 2x leader you can hit some monsters in the in town section come evening. And I am sure they would still be there now, but may take a different presentation, I just don't fish the Ogden as much in the winter.

Good luck

Thanks for the info pookie and wiper. I didn't end up making it to Ogden yesterday. I got a call about a wreck that way, and hit the MP instead. Definitely want to check the Ogden out some time soon though. I saw something about the DWR doing a fish population survey on that section in town.

I'd try up the canyon if it were me. Prepare for low water no matter where you decide. Latest data has it at 11 cfs. Way low and slow. Good luck

yeah I was headed to Logan first thing in the morning, 6:30 AM on business, then was going to hit the Logan River for a couple hours. I got caught between 700 S exit and 650 N exit in Clearfield for an hour and fifteen minutes!! you're lucky you didn't go!

[font "Courier New"][#000080][size 3]I don't really river fish. But I did give it a try last year. It was somewhere between Peterson and Taggarts (didn't pay attention to which town I was in, just pulled off the highway at a place I thought looked good...but hadn't gotten as far as Devil's Slide). I didn't catch anything, but the guy leaving when I got there had 3 or 4 fish.
That was in April, and the weather was alternating sun and rain about every 15 minutes! Hardly any wind, so it wasn't too cold.

My dad thought I was crazy to go fishing in the rain (which was really more a drizzle). But I've heard that's the best time, so I gave it a try! Not that I got anything, of course...
