Sevier River Quickie
#1
After I got done with the weekend's chores, I made good on my threat to hit the river this evening for an hour or so. They've cut way back on the releases from Piute and it's running clear again.

I fished the Marysvale Canyon area and used a Blue Fox. LOAH schooled me a while back in my own backyard, so I vowed to leave the Fox on for the duration of my outing. The first few holes were hitless despite deep green eddies that screamed "Big browns here!" I was doubting the Fox's allure when I got a solid strike from an enthusiastic little brown of 9". Unfortunately, I met the little guy's strike with an equal amount of enthusiasm and launched my first river brown of the year with the ferocity of a sidewinder missle and landed him with a solid thump in the sand behind me with out the benefit of a fair fight. He didn't seem any worse for wear when I turned him back to the river, but I'm sure his little brain was reeling.

I got a couple more similar sized browns out of the hole and missed a few more. A quick move up river produced a couple more browns. The largest was around 11-12" and fought with much larger shoulders. Nothing to get excited about size wise, but not a bad little ice breaker.

I fished the Sevier below Marysvale this past weekend too...among the three of us, we caught around 20-25 fish--mostly browns with a couple rainbows and one cutt. I was pretty excited to catch a 22" brown that turned out to be the biggest of the day. Fish seemed aggressive in the morning but not as aggressive as the day went on...but, overall, fishing was good. Wooly buggers were the ticket...

Thanks for the reports guys, we don't get many from the sevier river area and a 22 incher sounds like a nice one from that body of water.

Yup, a 22 incher is a dandy, especially this past few years.
