Willard Crappies
#1
I got to the North marina around 1:00 on Sunday and launched the boat and commenced on fixing my wooden runner on the trailer. Got out on the lake around 2:00 and tried my old kitty spot with no avail. Came into the marina around 5:00 and noticed a little action on the east side. There were about 10 fishermen and I noticed some tiny splashes. I put the boat up and curiosity was killing me so I ventured over to the action. Well I under estimated the little splashes. I saw 12 or so landed crappies the smallest around 14" and I'll bet the largest around 17". So I went to the boat pulled out a rod and fished for about two hours, away from the crowd with no luck. There was a guy pretty close to me and he was the one with the 17". I've caught white crappies in Louisiana that big or maybe a tad bigger but those were some of the biggest black crappies I've ever seen in my 44 years.

The guy who caught it thought he had a bass in the beginning. On the lake itself I do not believe anyone had caught anything. Too bad I had to work or I would have spent today out there. Hopefully it is just the beginning but who knows with the front coming through. Hurry up Saturday!

Yes, they were fishing from shore. The guy with the 6 or 7 was using a red headed jig with a two or three inch florescent tube. The guy with the large crappie was using a red headed jig with a 3 or 4 inch torn in half purple worm. I did not see any bait other than artificials. I tried the red jig with florescent tube and added a crappie getter but with no avail.
